Reading FC are monitoring Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, according to The Reading Chronicle.
The Royals lost their top scorer Nick Blackman to Derby County last week and Reading boss, Brian McDermott has reportedly targeted Gayle as his replacement
The 25-year-old looks to be on his way out of Selhurst Park, with Reading joining the three-way chase for the striker – with Norwich City, Newcastle and Derby showing interest.
The South East London side accepted a £6 million bid from Bristol City in the summer for the forward, but he decided against the move.
Gayle has found appearances hard to come by this season after only making seven appearances at Palace.
The Eagles signed Gayle in what was a club record deal and has scored 23 goals in 64 appearances.
Brian McDermott has a close relationship with Palace manager Alan Pardew and could ask for a favour from the former Royals boss.
The Berkshire side have found it difficult to score goals without Blackman’s presence this season, and Gayle could be the perfect option for the club to rely on for goals.
Reading FC currently sit in 12th place in the Championship and are on a poor run of form – losing seven of their last 10 games.
The club will make the trip to Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon in their third round FA Cup tie.
