Reading FC join hunt for lethal Championship star

Reading are the latest club to join the hunt for Brentford’s in-demand striker Scott Hogan, HITC Sport understands.

The Royals have made signing a top-striker in January their top priority, with Jaap Stam’s side looking for reinforcements to their attacking line to help the club in their quest to contend for promotion to the Premier League.

Hogan would certainly fit the bill for Reading, as he currently stands second in the Championship’s top-scorer with 11 goals in 20 appearances – a record only Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle can better.

Previously struggling with numerous injury problems after joining the club from Rochdale in 2014, Hogan has returned with a bang and scored seven goals in seven appearances last season when returning in March, continuing his fine-form into the current campaign.

Brentford, who currently sit just three-points above the relegation spots, will not be keen to sell in January but are bracing themselves for bids amidst reported interest from a number of clubs, including Norwich City.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, the Royals will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday at the Madejski Stadium – after suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend.
