Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected a bid from Championship side Reading for Israeli striker Tomer Hemed as reported by The Argus.

According to the reports, Brighton will be willing to part ways with the player if their search for a new striker brings in positive results.

However, Reading’s bid didn’t match the Seagulls’ valuation of the player regardless of their search for a new striker.

Hemed enjoyed a decent campaign during the 2016/17 season, scoring 14 times and providing four assists in 41 games in all competitions as Brighton finished second and earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

The 30-year-old, who is currently away on international duty with the Israel national side, is yet to score this season in three league games and one cup outing.

The Verdict

If Jaap Stam intends to use Hemed as a backup to the first team, then this has the potential to be a good buy for the Royals.

Throughout his entire Championship career, the veteran striker has averaged a goal every 2.8 games which isn’t terrible for a backup forward.

It proves that he can consistently score and whilst he may not be bagging 30 goals a season, an extra 10-15 goals a season is nothing to turn your nose up to.
