Reading FC face battle to keep forward with Everton and Derby County interested in move

Reading FC have a battle on their hands to keep top goalscorer Nick Blackman, with high-flying Championship outfit Derby County and Premier League Everton monitoring his progress, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old striker has had a real breakout season with the Royals so far, with 10 goals in 21 appearances, and McDermott would loathe to lose his top goalscorer halfway through the season.

However with his contract expiring in the summer and with new terms yet to be agreed, Reading may decide to cash in their asset now rather than risk losing him for nothing in a few months time.

Derby County could be in the market for a new striker as they look to seal their place in next season’s Premier League due to the indifferent form of Darren Bent, and the reliance of Chris Martin.

The Rams have an abundance of goals from midfield, but with the goals for Martin drying up in recent weeks, the acquisition of Blackman would give the side more offensive options.

However the opportunity to play for an established Premier League side in Everton would be difficult for Blackburn to turn down.

Reading currently sit 13th in the Championship table and are 10 points off the play-offs, so promotion is unlikely this season, but the possibilities would be further reduced by losing Blackman, especially to a Championship rival.

Reading fans…….What do you think? How much of a blow would it be to lose Blackman? Derby fans…Would the striker be a good acquisition for your club? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
