Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson could be set for a return to the dug-out as Championship side Reading look for a replacement for Steve Clarke, according to the Telegraph.

In a hectic few weeks for Clarke, in which he turned down a move to Fulham at the last minute, as well as some poor results in the pitch, the Royals' have decided to part company with him following his side's 1-0 loss to QPR.

The search for Clarke's successor has begun and Pearson, who left Leicester in the summer despite keeping them in the Premier League, is one of the immediate frontrunners for the job.

Pearson has previous experience in the Championship with the Foxes over two spells, as well as a time with Hull City - he guided Leicester to the title in 2014.

Reading are ninth in the Championship and have lost two of their last three games, which coincided with Clarke's decision to hold talks with Fulham.

The Royals face Simon Grayson's Preston North End at Deepdale in their next Sky Bet Championship fixture, and there is likely to be a new manager in place, in time for the clash.
