Reading have been dealt an irritating blow in their pursuit to sign Norwich striker, Nelson Oliveira ahead of the new season.

It has been revealed by Get Reading, that Oliveira is set for a wage hike, that would see his wages rise to £30,000 per week, which is out of the Royals' price range, even though he is able to leave Carrow Road on a free this summer.

He's seen his wages increased after Norwich won promotion to the Premier League last season, even though Oliveira didn't play a single minute of that promotion-winning campaign.

Oliveira spent the second-half of last season on loan with Jose Gomes' side, and put in a number of impressive performances as they retained their Championship status.

The Madejski Stadium faithful would have been keeping their gingers crossed that their side could land his signature on a permanent basis as next season edges closer.

The Sun have recently reported that the Royals are currently under a 'soft transfer embargo', which means that they will have to sign players with authorisation from the EFL.

It's no secret that Reading need to trim the wage bill at the club, and potential player departures are on the cards before the new season gets underway in August.

If they can move players on, then Jose Gomes could be tempted to renew his interest in signing Oliveira permanently, as he is a player that will be wanting to have his long-term future resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

The Verdict:

This is a frustrating update for Reading supporters, that's for sure.

Oliveira looked as though he could have been the striker that Reading have been crying out for in recent seasons, and he showed his class in front of goal.

He looked like a threat whenever he was playing, and Reading could certainly have benefitted from having a player of his quality in their side next season.

They need to move players on as soon as possible, so that they can fund the signing of Oliveira.
