One of the more audacious moves in the latter days of the transfer market looks set to fall through, with Get Reading reporting that Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has failed his medical ahead of a proposed loan move to the Madejski Stadium.
Gyan was due to sign on for the season from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG, with his parent club subsidising his astronomical wages, but it now seems that Gyan has been denied a return to English football, as he is believed to still be 8 weeks away from fitness.
This will be a huge blow for Reading fans, who were excited by the prospect of a marquee signing such as Gyan joining them in the Championship, and Stam must now quickly seek potential alternatives to strengthen his forward line with the deadline arriving just tomorrow night.
The Royals have made a steady start to their league campaign, and came out victorious in their last Championship fixture against Cardiff City – with Yann Kermorgant firing an 89th minute winner to down Paul Trollope’s men 1-0.
