According to the Mirror’s live blog (26/7, 12:52), Reading are interested in signing Nahki Wells from Huddersfield Town this summer.

Jaap Stam is looking to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign, and has identified Wells as a target.

Wells has just 12-months remaining on his contract at Huddersfield, and the arrivals of Steven Mounie and Laurent Depoitre, have cast doubt over the 27-year-old’s role in David Wagner’s side.

The striker helped Town to promotion in the Championship last season, scoring ten goals and making 46 appearances, including the full 120 minutes in the play-off final victory over Reading.

Wells and Huddersfield ended Reading’s Premier League dream last season, and now Stam is preparing for another tilt at promotion next year.

The Dutchman is actively looking to strengthen his attacking options and hand some support to last season’s top goalscorer, Yann Kermorgant.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has already arrived at the Madejski Stadium this summer, but Stam is keen to add other options to his strikeforce and is now considering a move for Wells.

Reading recently had a £4m bid rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion for Tomer Hemed, with Chris Hughton insisting the striker was part of the Seagulls’ plans heading into the Premier League.
