Reading made it four league games without a win after a late George Saville double saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat at Millwall.

The Royals dominated the ball and took the lead in the 73rd minute when Dave Edwards scored his first goal since joining from Wolves.

However, it was Edwards' ex-Wolves teammate who would change the result.

Saville headed in an equaliser with ten minutes to go before an 85th minute strike secured the points, although there was late drama with Reading adamant they should've had a penalty in stoppage time.

Speaking to the club's media afterwards, boss Jaap Stam admitted is was tough for his side to deal with the hosts approach.

They scored these two goals and if you look back at the game as well for them they didn't create any other chances.

When they go forward, with these balls in the boxes, it's a threat, it's difficult for everybody to defend.

The defeat leaves Reading 18th and worryingly only three sides have scored fewer goals than last year's play-off finalists this season.

The Verdict

Jaap Stam and Reading fans will be frustrated that they couldn't hold onto the lead that Dave Edwards gave them.

His assessment of Millwall's style is fair, but they should've been prepared and conceding from a set-play will be disappointing as you expect it's something they would've worked on beforehand.

Next up, Norwich visit the Madejski Stadium in what will be another tough game for Stam's men.
