Reading FC are interested in signing Dutchman Joey van den Berg, according to Dutch journalist Leon ten Voorde.

Reports in Holland have emerged linking the midfielder with a move to Reading on a free transfer from Heerenveen.

He could reunite with new Reading boss Jaap Stam, who he worked with at FC Zwolle. Stam was the assistant manager at FC Zwolle from 2011 to 2013.

Last season, van den Berg made 26 appearances for Heerenveen, scoring 2 goals as they finished in 12th place in the Dutch top flight.

Van den Berg is currently 30 years old, and has spent the majority of his footballing career playing in the Dutch Premier League, the Eredivisie.

Reading finished 17th in the Championship last season after a disappointing 2015/16 campaign – they have already secured the services of Dutch defender Danzell Gravenberch ahead of next season.
