Sky Bet Championship side Reading are attempting to secure a move to sign Norwich City striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, according to the Reading Chronicle.

Van Wolfswinkel is a target for Steve Clarke's Reading

The 26-year-old signed for the Canaries in 2013 from Portuguese side Sporting for a fee of £8.5 million, but only scored one goal in his first season at the club and was shipped out to St. Etienne on loan.

Despite starting and scoring against Rotherham in the Capital One Cup, he looks like he has no future at Alex Neil's side, and it looks like he could be shipped out of the club this summer.

A number of Championship sides are interested in taking him on, but the Royals lead the chase as they hunt a striker.

Steve Clarke's Reading side lost Russian frontman Pavel Pogrebnyak to Dynamo Moscow last week and also missed out on top target Robert Beric to French side St. Etienne this week, whom they bid £3.9 million for.

The Royals currently sit in 13th position in the Sky Bet Championship table, and will be hoping someone like Van Wolfswinkel will add an element of potency and firepower that will propel them up the division.
