Reading have had a rather inconsistent start to the season, but since Mark Bowen has taken over the Royals have managed to pick up 10 points from a possible 12.

This has seen them move away from the relegation zone and up the table to as high as 17th, and they'll be hoping to build on that when they travel to Brentford this weekend.

One player who won't be making the trip to the Bees is midfielder Charlie Adam who picked up a hamstring injury in the victory over Preston, which was Bowen's first game in charge.

Since, he has failed to get into the squad due to the injury, but will having played 60 minutes for one of the youth sides in the week, he's expected to return to the squad for the game against Wigan on the 30th of November.

Adam knows Bowen well from their time at Stoke together, but with the quality that Reading have in central-midfield at the moment, it's likely that he'll either be on the bench or out of the squad due to the tough competition he faces.

Reading fans will be thinking that maybe it's not worth the player being at the club on a contract due to the amount of games that he's going to play and his recent injury record.

He clearly wasn't Jose Gomes' cup of tea, and his future will very much depend on Bowen's perception of the midfielder and how much impact he believes he can have in this division.

Adam does provide experience, and at the moment the Reading team is very young. This is something that can be a massive boost to all sides, especially when a youngster needs an arm around him after a mistake or poor performance.

The Royals supporters will be hoping that even when he is injured, he can provide that much needed advice, but it's hard to believe that we will be seeing Adam in a Reading shirt next season unless there's an injury to one of the starting midfielders.

In fairness to the Scottish midfielder, John Swift and Ovie Ejaria have been simply sensational and it's not often you get two players who are in the best form of their careers at the same time.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Adam, and whether he will be someone Bowen chooses to use.
