The one key area of Reading's side that needs strengthening is in attacking midfield, with only Ovie Ejaria really providing any kind of creativity in the centre of the park, this is certainly an area that Mark Bowen will be looking to strengthen in January.

Fans will no doubt have been intrigued to read reports in recent days that refer to Lewis Baker's perceived unhappiness in Germany, with German sports publication Bild citing the player's lack of game time as the source of the on-loan Chelsea midfielder's discontent.

The 24-year-old playmaker has only made seven appearances for Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, thus opening up to the possibility of the midfielder making a return to his home country in January.

Reading fans will however have mixed feelings about the potential return of Baker, with the number ten having previously spent an uninspiring short spell at the Madejski Stadium last season.

He made 19 appearances for the Royals, whilst registering one goal and one assist in what was a somewhat underwhelming set of showings from the England youth international.

The Reading faithful may be keen for Bowen to focus on strengthening other areas of the team, with options in wide areas particularly limited, the Royals may wish to consider bringing in a winger or two in January.

Although many supporters will be wary of how good Baker can be when he is on his game, it is fair to assume that they will probably view this rumour as nothing more than hot air, with clubs up and down the country being linked with a different player every day at this time of year.

It remains to be seen if Baker will indeed make a return to England, but it is certainly a case of growing concern for both Baker and Chelsea, with the 24-year-old at an age where he needs to be playing regularly in order to realise his true potential.
