Reading fans have every reason to be optimistic about their survival chances this season, as they announced the signing of Nelson Oliveira on loan from Norwich City.

It's not the first time Oliveira has been linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium, as his potential arrival has been rumoured in a number of transfer windows in the past.

But Jose Gomes seems to have the pulling power in striking a deal for some promising players, including Oliveira, who could certainly be an excellent addition to the Reading squad.

It's an arrival that has been met with a considerable amount of praise, as it could put an end to the lack of goals in the Reading squad at this moment in time.

But Reading fans will also have to take into account that Oliveira was frozen out of the Norwich squad with good reason, as he has had his fair share of disciplinary problems in the past.

Jose Gomes has certainly won over the Reading supporters since he arrived in Berkshire, and he strikes me as the sort of manager that can get the best out of the Portuguese forward.

Oliveira has already proven that on his day, he can be one of the most clinical goalscorers in the Championship, and Reading fans should be confident of retaining their Championship status with him in their squad.

With the creative spark from the likes of Sone Aluko, John Swift and Lewis Baker being provided from midfield, it gives the on-loan striker the perfect type of service to score some much-needed goals for this Reading team.

Reading supporters have been crying out for their side to sign a recognised goalscoring striker, and in Oliveira they have certainly got their man.

I have no doubt that he will score goals for this Reading side, and will play a crucial role in firing the Royals to safety.

If he can make a good impression this season on loan, then I'm sure Jose Gomes will be keen to make his stay in Berkshire a permanent one at the end of the season.
