Reading fans will be disappointed following their latest managerial appointment, with Royals sporting director Mark Bowen taking over the reins on a permanent basis.

Bowen was the man who helped wield the axe on Jose Gomes last week, and has now taken the manager's job for himself following a small search by the Reading board to try and identify the right man who can take the club forward.

To put it lightly, Reading fans aren't happy on social media about Bowen being appointed as the club's new manager, and rightly so.

From the fan perspective of the Reading fanbase, they will be disappointed, and in some cases furious, that the Reading board have decided to appoint Bowen as Gomes' successor to try and take the club forward and make them a better outfit on the pitch as well as pull them away from relegation danger this season.

With the names that had been linked to Reading across the past few days, including the experienced Mark Hughes, Nigel Adkins and Brian McDermott, appointing a man with no previous experience as a first-team manager is a big kick in the teeth to the likes of Jose Gomes and the Reading fans.

One of the only ways that Bowen is now going to be able to get Reading fans onside is by getting the required results to move Reading up the table. Bowen and the Reading board have taken a brave move in the hope that Bowen can inspire the Royals players enough to move on up the table and put in some performances that the fans are desperate to see. There's going to be a long road ahead for Bowen and his backroom staff now as Reading face a long few months to preserve their Championship status, and with the Reading fans already against the appointment, it could be a long few weeks and months ahead for the former Norwich City player at the Reading helm.
