According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic have joined the race, along with Sky Bet Championship side Reading for outcast Ajax midfielder Thulani Serero.

The 26 year-old is set to definitely leave the Dutch outfit as they look to either loan him out or terminate his contract at the club.

Serero was not handed a squad number prior to this season and his last competitive appearance came for South Africa in World Cup qualification in November.

Jaap Stam is understood to be a keen admirer of the midfielder but has a challenge on his hands as French team Bordeaux and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic continue to monitor the situation.

Thulani Sereno was once playing in the Champions League, Europe's most prestigious club competition, including taking part in Ajax's victory against continental giants Barcelona three years ago.

Sereno could be a massive influence in Reading FC's ambitions of playing Premier League football next season, with the club firmly in the mix for promotion this season.

The Berkshire outfit currently sit in third position in the Sky Bet Championship after a sensational start to the season, and Stam will no doubt be looking to enhance the squad in the transfer window.
