Reading have announced that young striker Andrija Novakovich has signed a new two-year deal at the Madejski Stadium and will move to Fortuna Sittard on loan for next season.

The academy graduate is highly-rated at the Royals but clearly isn't in manager Paul Clement's plans and will spend the next 12 months in Holland, as he did last season.

The 21-year old spent last season at Telstar in the Dutch second tier and was very impressive, hitting 19 goals in the campaign which made him the second highest scorer in the league.

That prompted interest in the player from several clubs abroad and he will move to Fortuna Sittard who are newly-promoted to the Eredivisie, meaning Novakovich will take on the likes of PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord.

Once the loan spell is up, the American forward will have a year left on his contract, however he will hope to add to the two appearances he has made for Royals before his new deal expires.

The Verdict

This is a good move for all involved. Novakovich has proven himself to be a very good player in Dutch football but moving to the top-tier will be a new test for him.

Everyone at Reading will be interested to see how he copes against some quality opposition and if he does well they will consider using him in 12 months time.

For the player, getting a move and playing regularly is better than sitting on the bench or playing U23 football so this benefits everyone.
