Championship promotion hopefuls Reading are closing in on a move for Arsenal winger Nathan Tella.

According to FootballLondon, the 17-year-old is currently spending time with the Royals academy in the hope they could add him to their own development set-up for the near future.

Tella has reportedly been told he won't be offered a new contract at the Emirates going forward and is free to look for a new club.

Despite being let go from the Arsenal academy, Gunners supporters had been impressed with the youngster's showing in the U18's last season, where he featured on both flanks, centrally in the attacking line and at full-back.

But with competition so high at the Emirates Stadium, his Arsenal future is now at an end, which could prove to be a massive coup for Jaap Stam's Reading.

The Royals remain hotly in contention for promotion from the Championship this season and sit third in the league, just five points behind second-placed Brighton after this weekend's results.

They landed the likes of Reece Oxford and Lewis Grabban on loan from Premier League sides West Ham United and Bournemouth respectively, putting together some very impressive business in January.
