Reading manager Mark Bowen has addressed his meeting with Marcelo Bielsa back in 2002 and revealed it left him "very impressed with the way he goes about his work".

Bowen's side's travel to face Leeds United at Elland Road this weekend.

The Royals picked up an impressive 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday and will no doubt be looking to claim another Yorkshire scalp.

It looks as though they may be facing the Whites at a bad time, however, as Leeds looked back to their best against Bristol City last weekend.

Bielsa's men only won 1-0 but produced a dominant display and strangled the Robins, who barely had an opportunity all game.

Bowen and Bielsa were in opposite dugouts when their two sides met in the Championship back in November but that was not their first meeting.

The two were on opposite sides back in 2002 when Bielsa's Argentina side played Wales, who were managed by Mark Hughes at the time.

Bowen was Hughes' assistant manager in that game and, speaking to Get Reading, revealed some insight into that meeting.

He said: "I came up against Bielsa once before with Wales.

"I was very impressed with the way he goes about his work."

The Verdict

It's interesting to hear Bowen's insight on his previous meeting with Bielsa but he is certainly not the first Championship boss to wax lyrical about the Argentine coach this season.

The Reading manager will be hoping his men can cause an upset against the Whites when they meet on Saturday.

The Royals are 11 points adrift of the play-offs, so they're realistically not likely to be competing for the top six this year.

That being said, a result could be a huge confidence boost for Bowen's men and may have an impact on the promotion race.
