Reading Chronicle reporter Courtney Friday has confirmed that Reading have made a bid for Fulham goalkeeper David Button.

Following the departure of former Royals number one Ali Al Habsi, Jaap Stam has reportedly turned to Button.

Stam saw his side defeated on penalties in the Championship play-off final last season, after having defeated Slavisa Jokanovic's Fulham in the semi-finals and have attempted to strike a deal with the Cottagers for the purchase of Button.

The former Brentford goalkeeper made 40 appearances for Fulham last season, keeping 11 clean sheets, but lost his first team place to Marcus Bettinelli towards the business end of the season, and played his final match of the campaign in early April.

Therefore, Stam might feel confident of brokering a deal to secure the English shot stopper, if Jokanovic is to continue with Bettinelli between the sticks as his side look to formulate another promotion push next season.

Button is certainly hugely experienced at Championship level, having made 153 career appearances in the second tier, across spells with Fulham, Brentford, Barnsley, Charlton Athletic and Doncaster Rovers, keeping 41 clean sheets in the process.

Button started his career with Tottenham Hotspur, but failed to make a single appearance at White Hart Lane, enjoying a quite incredible thirteen loan spells, before finally making a permanent move to Charlton, where he stayed briefly before moving to Brentford in 2013.

Button joined the Bees' local rivals Fulham at the start of last season, but Stam will hope that his time in London is soon to come to an end.
