Reading assistant manager Kevin Keen has promised Royals supporters a promotion push next season.

The Royals have endured an extremely disappointing season in the Sky Bet Championship and currently occupy 19th place.

The Berkshire club suffered their 20th defeat of the season on Wednesday night as an undeserved Clayton Donaldson header downed a Royals side with a distinct lack of finishing.

Reading brought in Steve Clarke last December to stop the rot, and although Reading’s defeats have been less humiliating, they still haven’t stopped.

Clarke has hinted at a mass exodus in the summer as he’s clearly unhappy with his squad and his assistant Kevin Keen has urged fans to keep the faith.

He told the Reading Chronicle: “I understand that between now and the end of the season things will be a little bit different, but I hope they all get down to the Madejski Stadium next year because I’m sure the club will have a good season under Steve Clarke.”

“The cup run has been fantastic. Every match and performance in the cup has been really, really good.

“It’s in the league where we need to shake it up a little bit and make sure we’re challenging next year.”

Reading have a game in hand over the rest of the Championship against Rotherham, after their superb cup run.

Their defeat to Birmingham sees them stay in 19th placing having accumulated 47 points in the Sky Bet Championship this season.
