Reading are considering a move for Barrie McKay after his proposed move from Nottingham Forest to Olympiacos stalled, according to The Scottish Sun.

McKay is expected to leave Forest this summer after a disappointing first season in England.

The once-capped Scotland international joined his former Rangers boss Mark Warburton last summer when he switched Ibrox for The City Ground but he only managed 28 appearances in total, scoring five goals.

The winger struggled to get in the team when Aitor Karanka replaced Warburton at the helm, starting just one game in the final four months of the campaign.

The 23-year-old was set to join Greek giants Olympiacos, who Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is also in charge of, but he is stalling on this transfer with other clubs interested in him.

This includes Reading, who are hoping to bring the Scottish winger to the Madejski Stadium to bolster their options out wide.

Reading face competition from clubs in Russia and Germany for McKay, who is available for transfer at Forest, especially after the Reds snapped up Benfica wingers Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves.

Paul Clement is hoping to bring McKay to Reading and might firm up his interest with a bid in the coming weeks.

The Verdict

McKay looked devoid of confidence at Forest and needs to move away for the sake of his own career.

The Scotsman is young and if he rediscovers his early season form, then he may be a good addition for Reading.

Maybe McKay wants to prove himself in England rather than move abroad and he would get this chance at Reading.
