Reading striker Yakou Meite has identified former Chelsea frontman Didier Drogba as his all-time favourite player during a Q&A session on his Instagram account last night.

Many players have responded to the fixture suspension by finding new ways to engage with supporters over social media, and Meite has become the latest to join this trend by answering a series of questions from supporters.

During this, the Reading attacker was asked to name his favourite player and he simply attached an image of Drogba, with Meite opting to select his fellow countryman as the pair have both represented the Ivory Coast national side.

Drogba established himself as Chelsea's leading marksman during his eight-year stint at the club between 2004 and 2012, which means Meite progressed through his teenage years while watching Drogba in action for the Blues.

The fact Drogba is Ivory Coast's all-time leading scorer may have played a part in Meite's decision with the striker having netted 65 goals for the national side, while Meite earned his first cap for the Elephants back in 2018.

Meite has also continued to nail down his spot in the Reading starting line-up during their Championship campaign this term, with the 24-year-old having now scored 26 goals in his 91 outings since joining the Royals from PSG.

The Verdict

It does not come as much surprise to see Meite name Drogba as his favourite player given the pair share a similar background, with both players having Ivory Coast roots while they also both kicked off their careers in France.

Meite would have perhaps viewed Drogba as his inspiration when switching PSG for Reading in 2016, and Meite has definitely started making his mark on these shores after netting 25 goals across the last two seasons.

The Royals frontman shares similar traits with Drogba in that he is physically strong while possessing impressive pace and aerial ability. He will next be looking to further develop these traits when Reading's season eventually resumes.
