Reading striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has given an update on his expected return from injury as the season enters the final few weeks.

Taking to Twitter, the Icelandic international revealed that he hoped to back soon along with what looked like a post-training picture, sat with the ball at his feet.

He wrote: “Not long now. All in the right direction & hopefully I’ll be back out there for the last push.”

Bodvarsson has scored six times in 20 appearances so far this season but has not played since the 4-0 defeat Sheffield United back in February.

The Royals are firmly wedged in a relegation battle with Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Hull City dragging them back to within one point of the drop zone.

Things are not about to get any easier for Jose Gomes and his troops either with a trip to league-leaders Norwich City facing them on Wednesday night.

The verdict

This will be a sizeable boost for Reading when Bodvarsson returns.

Nelson Oliveira has been a revelation in attack but increasing that competition with another Championship standard striker can only be a good thing.

The relegation battle looks like it could go right to the wire, even though two places already look like they have been decided, with Rotherham United not giving up without a fight.
