Aston Villa failed to rectify their defensive problems in January fully and could be looking to add further in the summer.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Dean Smith is interested in Liam Lindsay from League One promotion hopefuls Barnsley.

The tweet posted read: “ASTON VILLA. Very keen on Liam Lindsay at BARNSLEY. Need new players next season. Badly.”

Barnsley are second in the third tier at present and on course for a return to the Championship.

Lindsay has made 31 league appearances and has been impressive throughout the campaign for Daniel Stendel.

Villa have the third worst defence in the division and are currently 11th in the standings – some eight points off the play-off places having played two games more than most of their rivals around them,

Lindsay, 23, is highly-rated at Oakwell and could well be what the club needs to sort out their problematic defensive issues.

With that said, here’s how the Villa fans have reacted to the link that the club are after the current Barnsley centre-back.
