Aston Villa fans face a nervous wait ahead of their final game of the season with Norwich City at Villa Park this weekend.
Dean Smith could have limited goalkeepers available to him, with Jed Steer picking up a knock late on in the hard-fought draw with Leeds United on Sunday.
Steer was forced to carry on despite still carrying the injury, as the Villans had already used up all of their substitutes on the day.
Any potential injury will come at the worst possible time for Smith’s side, as Villa have to concentrate on the play-offs which will make or break their season.
One man that could be called upon is young shot-stopper, Matija Sarkic who is yet to make a first-team appearance for Aston Villa.
The 21-year-old has been impressive with Villa’s youth side this season, but he doesn’t have a considerable amount of experience in senior football, which will be a concern.
The highest level that Sarkic has played at is in the Vanarama National League, where he made one appearance for Havant & Waterlooville earlier this season.
But with Lovre Kalinic, Orjan Nyland and Mark Bunn all unavailable for Villa this season, Sarkic could be forced to make his debut for Villa.
He’s certainly going to be keen to show Dean Smith what he can do as well, as he could have a huge role to play in their promotion bid this season.
For all we know, Sarkic could be the man fire Villa back into the Premier League if they reach the play-off final this season, but it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on if he is called upon.
Sarkic will also feel as though this might be his last chance to prove himself at Aston Villa, as he’s well down the pecking order in the Villa first-team when all of Dean Smith’s goalkeeping options are available for selection.
A huge moment for the youngster if he’s called upon, and he can’t afford to make any mistakes, otherwise it’ll cost Villa promotion back into the top-flight.
