Watford have had their fair share of signings that haven't hit the heights originally expected of them over the years.

The Hornets are currently sat third in the Championship table, and will be hoping to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Football League World's Watford supporter Joseph Findlay-Bada gave us his TOP-TEN worst Watford signings of all-time.

Might be a little harsh to have Gray on this list considering some important goals that he has netted during his 3 years at the club, but having cost Watford around £18 million, the return on investment just isn’t there.

In 100 appearances, the former Luton striker has scored 17 goals.

Signed from West Brom in the summer of 2019 for £5 million, Dawson was brought in to shore up a leaky back line, but he did anything but that.

The centre-back was in the Hornets side when they conceded eight at Man City, three at West Ham and three at home to Burnley, Brighton and Southampton.

Ironically, Isaac has not been a success since arriving at Watford from Granada in 2016 for a hefty £13 million.

Although he showed early signs of promise, the Nigerian forward has scored just five goals in 62 appearances for the Hornets as his career has been stunted by a combination of off-the-field antics and injury problems.

The Scottish striker signed from Burnley in July 2011 but really struggled to find the back of the net in his one full season at Watford, scoring only five goals in 48 games.

Having been signed ahead of the 2013/14 season to replace Nathaniel Chalobah in the heart of midfield, Watford fans quickly realised he was nowhere near his level.

He was 33 at the time and it showed. His severe lack of pace and inability to get around the pitch led to him being swiftly dropped from the side, playing just 17 games in his one season with the club.

Funnily enough, Diakite was signed in the same season as Iriney, however he came in on loan in January to try and take over from the disappointing Brazilian.

Diakite couldn’t have got off to a worse start as he was sent off on his debut and made just a handful more appearances. Although he was only a loan, his shambolic debut alone gets him on this list.

One goal in 27 appearances - as a striker. That’s all that needs to be said.

The Hungarian centre back was signed in 2014 on a free transfer and even that was overpriced. His nine games for Watford included an him scoring an own goal, receiving a red card and giving away a 1st minute penalty. An absolute calamity at the back.

With the Hornets struggling at the foot of the Premier League in the 2006/07 season and main striker Marlon King injured, manager Aidy Boothroyd had to act in the January window.

He signed Steve Kabba, who failed to score in the Premier League for Watford as they finished rock bottom. Kabba played 14 Championship games the following season, netting just once.

When Watford fans think of our worst ever signings, there is only one player that comes to mind. Coming off the 2006/07 relegation, the Hornets hierarchy had to make a statement to show they were intent to go straight back up.

They splashed out a club-record £3.25 million for Nathan Ellington. He struggled to get in the team all season, scoring 5 times and showing very little to justify his price tag. An unmitigated disaster.
