Sheffield Wednesday have had their fair share of signings that simply haven't hit the heights that were originally set for them at Hillsborough.

The Owls are likely to be busy in the winter transfer window in the New Year, as Tony Pulis looks to add much-needed depth to his squad, as they fight against relegation this term.

Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday supporter Paul Reynolds gave us his TOP-TEN worst Sheffield Wednesday signings of all-time!

Find out who kicks off the list at number ten, on the next page....

A player so forgettable, I almost forgot to even include him on this list.

Signed from St Johnstone as a marquee signing in 2014, the same year we sold Michail Antonio, May had a largely forgettable season at Hillsborough hitting 7 goals in 39 appearances before being sold to Preston.

De Bilde was definitely a talented player but had a bit of an attitude problem.

Signed for a fee in the region of £4.5 million, De Bilde was unable to help The Owls escape relegation from the Premier League in 1999/00, a relegation the club has never really recovered from. He definitely did not live up to expectation and his sizeable transfer fee lands him a place on this list.

A free signing from Rangers, Ross had picked up 13 appearances at international level for Scotland so looked like he could be a decent signing.

A complete waste of time, Ross made 2 appearances before being loaned out to Wolves on a transfer that was eventually made permanent.

A very forgettable player, Blondeau signed in 1997 for a fee of £1.8 million.

He made just a handful of appearances for the club before returning to his native France a few months later.

Jeffers undoubtedly had potential, earning an England cap at age 22.

By the time he arrived at Hillsborough in 2007 though he was already pretty much finished, 5 league goals in 3 seasons plagued by injuries is enough to see him make this list.

A player that was largely plagued by injuries in his four years at Hillsborough, Donnelly managed just 53 league appearances in four seasons.

He was a free signing from Celtic so his one saving grace is he didn’t set us back millions like some of the other names on this list.

Ask any Wednesday fan to name a terrible signing and Almen Abdi is never far down the list. It got the fanbase very excited when he and returning loanee Daniel Pudil both signed permanently from Watford.

For a fee of £3million, you’d probably expect more than 20 appearances over 3 seasons but that’s what we got from Abdi who is another that was on sizeable wages, a truly disappointing flop.

A prolific striker at Championship level that we had been linked with several times, when Rhodes finally joined Wednesday for a fee rumoured to be around 10 million it is fair to say the fans expected a lot more.

Definitely not the worst striker we’ve seen at Hillsborough but he’s far from the best and when you look at his transfer fee and the massive wages that he’s on it’s easy to see why he’s on this list.

Since joining Wednesday he has only scored more than five league goals in a campaign once, and even that was while he was on loan to Norwich for 2018/19. Wednesday are crying out for a really prolific centre forward and we should have one on the books but its never really worked out for Rhodes at Wednesday.

A pointless, disappointing and pretty bizarre signing, Emanuelson joined The Owls for the 2016/17 season having previously played for Ajax, Milan and Roma.

He made just one appearance and even that was a 74th minute substitute on the last day of the season. Just an all-round weird signing and a big disappointment when looking at his CV.

Jon Beswetherick joined Sheffield Wednesday from Plymouth in 2002 and made just 11 appearances for the Owls. He is largely regarded as one of the worst Sheffield Wednesday players in recent memory.

He was so terrible that he was once substituted after 20 minutes of a game for his poor performance.
