Norwich City have had a very successful period since Daniel Farke took over at Carrow Road and the German has managed to achieve a lot during his tenure.

Farke has taken Norwich to two promotions in the last three seasons, with their immediate return to the top-flight having already been confirmed. It also looks like he is on course to secure the Championship title for the second time as well during that period.

One of the main reasons for the success that Farke has enjoyed with Norwich has been that he has recruited very well in the main. There have been many astute signings who have played their parts in assuring that the Canaries have progressed on the field and are now looking like they could give it a real go in terms of battling to stay in the Premier League.

With that in mind, we have ranked what in our opinion are the best nine signings the Canaries have made under Farke – Do you agree? What would your order be?

Before we start this list, it is worth mentioning the likes of Marco Stiepermann, Kieran Dowell, Jacob Sørensen and Onel Hernández as players who were contenders to make this list but just missed out.

However, Mario Vrančić is the first player to be included on this list having been signed during Farke’s first summer transfer window at Carrow Road back in 2017. The midfielder has been an astute pickup and he has been a vital part of the squad for the last three seasons. He fired in one goal and two assists in his 35 appearances in the 2017/18 campaign.

The 2018/19 season saw Vrančić establish himself at Carrow Road and he scored ten goals and provided seven assists in his 36 league games to help Norwich to promotion. Last term, chances were harder to come by in the Premier League and he made just six starts, but this campaign he has been more involved and contributed three goals and five assists.

The midfielder has proven to be a very good signing by Farke.

In at eighth place on this list is midfielder Kenny McLean, who has proven to be an excellent signing by Norwich and has perhaps performed above expectations at Carrow Road.

McLean was signed by Farke in January 2018 from Aberdeen, but was initially sent back to the Scottish side on loan for the rest of the 2017/18 campaign. It took him some time to force his way into the side on a regular basis in the 2018/19 season, but he made a positive difference for the Canaries when he was called upon and chipped in with three goals and six assists in 20 games.

Last term, the midfielder really established himself as a crucial member of the starting line-up and he stood out at times for his work rate in the middle of the park in the top-flight. He managed to score one goal and provide one assist in his 37 Premier League appearances.

The 29-year-old has once again been a key figure this time around and has fired in two goals and provided four assists at the time of writing. McLean has certainly proved to be an astute addition to the squad.

There might be some who feel that Christoph Zimmermann deserves to be higher than seventh on this list and that perhaps shows just how many good signings Farke has made at Carrow Road.

Zimmermann was another player brought into the club in the summer of 2017 and he was a solid enough performer in his first year in the Championship, despite the Canaries not managing to challenge for the top-six. However, in 2018/19 he showed his worth scoring twice and also helping Norwich record 12 clean sheets in his 40 league games as they earned promotion.

Injury issues affected the impact he was able to have on the side last term and Norwich missed his presence at the heart of their defence at times. He was still able to make 17 appearances, but could not prevent them from being relegated.

Zimmermann has not always been in the side this campaign either, thanks to the form of Ben Gibson and Grant Hanley, but has always been a good performer when called upon. The defender has been one of Norwich’s most successful additions in Farke’s time at the club.

In another year or so, Ben Gibson might well be pushing for a place in the top three or four on this list. For now though he comes in at sixth place thanks to his impressive and vital contributions this season for the Canaries.

Gibson has been one of the most successful loan arrivals Norwich have made, not just under Farke, but in their history. The defender arrived at Carrow Road last summer from Burnley with a real point to prove and he has shown his quality and reminded everyone why he was once a contender for the England squad. The 28-year-old has been a key to them earning promotion and becoming more solid.

The defender has managed to help the Canaries record 12 clean sheets in his 27 Championship appearances and he has also been astute in possession and helped the Canaries build the play through the thirds. Despite suffering a season-ending injury he has been snapped up by the club on a permanent deal for around £8.5 million.

In fifth place on this list is Grant Hanley, who has been a very dependable partner alongside Gibson at the heart of the Canaries’ defence this term and has proven to be a brilliant signing by Farke.

Hanley arrived at Norwich in the summer of 2017 with limited fanfare. At times he struggled during the 2017/18 campaign as he aimed to get to grips with the style of play that Farke was trying to implement at Carrow Road. He still managed to show his leadership qualities and helped them keep seven clean sheets in his 32 appearances.

The defender started the 2018/19 season in the side, but then injury and the form of the likes of Ben Godfrey, Tim Klose and Zimmermann kept him out of the side. That meant he featured just nine times in the league. Last term, Hanley was more involved due to injury issues to other players and he made 15 appearances for the Canaries.

This term, Hanley has come into his own and managed to be a crucial performer making 39 appearances to date and helping the Canaries record 17 clean sheets. His leadership skills and dependability have made him one of their most outstanding players of the campaign.

Like Gibson, Oliver Skipp has been an exceptional signing for Norwich and played a pivotal role in helping to establish Farke’s side as the best team in the Championship this term.

Signed on a season-long loan deal in the summer from Tottenham Hotspur, Skipp was always someone that seemed like he could be a masterstroke of a signing. So that has proved to be and the midfielder has shown he is a class above the English second tier with a string of impressive displays that have seen him dictate the play at times in the middle of the park.

Sitting in front of the back four, Skipp has mopped up any danger to Norwich’s defence and shown excellent skills in terms of his ability to read the game. That has helped Farke’s side become more solid and less susceptible to being broken on when they lose the ball in the last third. The midfielder will be really missed next term when he heads back to Spurs.

In third place on this list is goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has proven to be one of the most important signings that Farke has made during his time at Carrow Road.

Krul was signed by Norwich in the summer of 2018, as Farke searched for a reliable number one to help take the club forwards. The Netherlands international certainly proved to be the right option to do that and he managed to record 13 clean sheets and average three saves per game in the 2018/19 campaign to help the Canaries earn promotion.

Last term, Krul was at times the only player keeping the Canaries in matches in the top-flight. He managed to make a number of excellent and memorable saves and averaged 3.7 saves per game and managed to keep five clean sheets. That saw the Dutchman be named their Player of the Season.

Krul’s form has continued to be equally as impressive in the Championship this term, all be it he has had a lot more protection. The keeper has to date recorded an impressive tally of 17 clean sheets and he committed his long-term future to the club back in December.

How on earth do you choose between Teemu Pukki and Emiliano Buendia? Both have been exceptional signings for Norwich and contributed massively to their success. However, we have gone with Pukki in second just about missing out on first place.

The forward was signed by Norwich in the summer of 2018, with the Canaries hoping to find a reliable scorer. There would have been few who could have foreseen the success he would enjoy at Carrow Road. The 2018/19 season saw him find a real purple patch of form and Norwich were creating chance after chance for him going forwards. That saw him fire in 29 goals and nine assists in 43 games.

Last term, some still questioned whether maybe Pukki was something of a one-season wonder and doubted if he could make it in the top-flight. Simply put, they were wrong. The Finland international found himself in everyone’s Fantasy football sides after he enjoyed an explosive start to the campaign. The forward finished the season with a very respectable 11 goals in the league.

Pukki has been as reliable as ever this season, and to date, he has fired in 25 goals and provided four assists in his 39 Championship appearances. Considering he was signed on a free transfer, his goal return has been simply stunning and he could even have had more. He has been a magnificent addition to the squad from Farke.

Considering how good Pukki has been, it just shows what a brilliant talent Norwich have on their hands in the form of Buendia that he can make it to the top of this list.

Buendia arrived at Carrow Road in the summer of 2018, and he has managed to establish himself as one of the most sought-after players in Europe with his performances over the last three campaigns. The attacker was irrepressible at times in the 2018/19 campaign, and he managed to bamboozle Championship defences, finishing the season with eight goals and 12 assists.

However, the question remained could he do it in the top-flight? The answer was emphatic. He was one of the best creative players in the entire division last season despite playing for a Norwich side struggling against relegation. Buendia finished the campaign with one goal and seven assists, but his ability to carry the ball and pick the right pass consistently stood him out even more.

Somewhat surprisingly, Buendia has remained with Norwich this season. That has been massive to the Canaries’ benefit and he has once again proven a class above in the English second tier. The attacker has chipped in with 13 goals and 15 assists and has arguably been the best player in the league. It will be hard to for Farke’s side to keep hold of him. Should he go, it will be for a very large fee.
