It has been a rollercoaster of a year to be a Blackburn Rovers supporter as the club have experienced plenty of highs as well as some serious lows in 2021.

From losing 7-0 at home to Fulham to securing eye-catching victories over the likes of Cardiff City and Birmingham City, it is fair to say that life is rarely dull if you follow Tony Mowbray's side.

Currently third in the Championship standings, Blackburn will be aiming to launch a push for promotion in the New Year.

Ahead of the club's showdown with Hull City on Boxing Day, we have decided to rank the top FIVE best players at Blackburn this year.

Do you agree with this list?

5) Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott managed to illustrate his talent for Blackburn last season as he produced some fantastic attacking displays in the Championship during his loan spell at the club.

The 18-year-old provided nine direct goal contributions in the second-tier earlier this year before returning to Anfield.

Elliott has since gone on to feature on four occasions for Liverpool in the top-flight during the current campaign.

After making 39 appearances for Blackburn last season, Joe Rothwell has taken his game to new heights during the current campaign as he has delivered the goods on a consistent basis in the Championship.

Currently averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.06 in the second-tier, Rothwell has managed to provide his team-mates with seven assists at this level.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to maintain his form as well as his fitness in the New Year.

Darragh Lenihan has also been a stand-out performer for Blackburn this season as he has made considerable strides in terms of his development under the guidance of Mowbray.

The 27-year-old has played in all but two of the club's league games and is currently averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.20.

With Lenihan's contract set to expire next summer, Blackburn ought to be looking into the possibility of offering him a lucrative deal in the coming months.

2) Adam Armstrong

Before sealing a switch to Southampton in the summer transfer window, Adam Armstrong set the Championship alight during his time at Blackburn.

The forward scored 13 goals and chipped in with two assists in 2021 as Blackburn secured a 15th place finish in the second-tier.

Armstrong has yet to replicate this form in the Premier League for the Saints as he has only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions for his new side.

1) Ben Brereton Diaz

Brereton Diaz has been Blackburn's best player of 2021 as he has experienced a remarkable rise to prominence.

After providing five direct goal contributions for Rovers earlier this year, the Chile international has managed to find the back of the net on 19 occasions in 23 league appearances this season.

Providing that Brereton Diaz decides to stay at Blackburn in the January transfer window, there is every chance that he will fire his side to promotion to the Premier League as he has emerged as their talisman in recent months.
