Reading have had their fair share of players that have been with the club for a considerable amount of time at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals are currently sat seventh in the Championship table, and have missed out on a top-six finish in the second-tier, after they were forced to settle for a point against Swansea City at the weekend.

Reading boss Veljko Paunovic hasn't been shy in using the club's younger players that have impressed in their Under-23s side, with the likes of Tom Holmes and Michael Olise being just some of the names to flourish in this year's campaign.

The Madejski Stadium faithful have seen plenty of players come and go from the club over the years, with some sticking around for more than others.

We take a look at the top-ten longest serving players in Reading's first-team squad.

Sone Aluko is the first name on the list, with the winger signing for Reading back in August 2017 from Fulham, for a sizeable transfer fee.

The Nigerian winger has struggled to replicate the type of form that saw him become such a threat for the Cottagers earlier in his career though.

Aluko has recently made his 100th appearances for Reading's senior side, but has only scored five goals and been on hand to provide eight assists for the Berkshire-based side.

He's out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and it would come as a real surprise to see him extend his stay with the Royals.

Liam Moore is ninth on the list, with the defender signing for Reading back in August 2016 from Leicester City.

The Jamaican international has gone on to be a regular in the Reading team, and has played his part in a tricky few seasons for the Royals, as they battled to retain their status as a Championship club.

Moore has made 213 appearances in all competitions for Reading, with 32 of those coming in this year's campaign, with Veljko Paunovic's side narrowly missing out on a top-six finish after an inconsistent run of form in the second-half of the 2020/21 season.

Michael Olise is eighth on the list, with the Royals midfielder signing for the club in the summer of 2016, after previously being on the books with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City earlier in his youth career.

Olise was a regular for Reading's Under-23s side earlier in his career, but has wasted no time in making a positive impact with the club's senior team this season.

The 19-year-old has made 44 appearances in all competitions this season for the Royals, and has chipped in with six goals and ten assists for Veljko Paunovic's side.

Olise has been linked with a move elsewhere in the past, and Reading will know that they face a real battle to keep him at the club moving forwards.

Yakou Meite is next up, with the Ivorian international signing for the club on July 29th 2016 from French giants PSG.

The winger has made 123 appearances in total for Reading, and has chipped in with 42 goals in his time with the Berkshire-based club so far.

Meite has been absent through injury during the 2020/21 season, which could potentially be one of the reasons why they've struggled to build on a hugely impressive first-half of the campaign.

Meite has established himself as a firm fans favourite at the Madejski Stadium, and he'll be hoping he can stay injury-free heading into next season.

John Swift is in at number six, with the Reading midfielder signing for the club on July 14th 2016 from Premier League giants Chelsea.

Swift had previously been out on loan with the likes of Brentford, Rotherham United and Swindon Town earlier in his career whilst with Chelsea, but made the move to the Madejski Stadium in 2016.

He has gone on to become a regular in the Reading team ever since signing for the club, although he has struggled with injuries during his time with the Royals.

Swift has been restricted to just 12 appearances in all competitions this term, and his many of the club's supporters will feel as though his absence could have cost them a place in the top-six this season.

Andy Rinomhota is next up, with the midfielder signing for the club back in 2015.

Rinomhota didn't break into the Reading first-team on a regular basis until 2018, but he caught the eye with some strong performances for the club's Under-23s, which saw him force his way into the senior squad.

The midfielder hasn't looked back since, and has been a regular in the Reading first-team. The Yorkshire-born midfielder has made 42 appearances in this year's campaign, and will be hoping to feature regularly moving forwards.

Rinomhota has established a strong performance alongside Josh Laurent, and if they can keep the pair together, then the Madejski Stadium faithful will be hoping for some strong performances moving into next year's campaign.

Luke Southwood is up next, with the young Reading goalkeeper signing for the club back in 2015.

The shot-stopper has found regular game time hard to come by since breaking into the first-team squad though, and has been out on loan at a number of different teams, as he goes in search of regular minutes in senior football.

He has only made three senior appearances for Reading, and has had loan spells with the likes of Eastleigh and Hamilton Academical in the past.

Southwood is out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and it remains to be seen as to whether there has been any progress on contract talks between him and the club at this stage.

Omar Richards is the first name in the top-three, with the Reading full-back first signing for the club back in 2013, having previously been on the books with Fulham earlier in his youth career.

The full-back has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and has featured heavily for Reading's first-team this season, as they've narrowly missed out on a top-six finish in the Championship.

Richards has made 102 appearances in total for the Berkshire-based side, and will be hoping he can finish this year's campaign strongly with Veljko Paunovic's side.

It's unlikely that Richards will remain a Reading player for much longer though, with it being well-documented that he's set to sign for German giants Bayern Munich.

Tom Holmes is joint-top of the list as Reading's current longest serving player at this moment in time, with the defender signing for the club back in 2008.

Th 21-year-old has had one loan spell away from the Madejski Stadium, which came with Belgian side K.S.V. Roeselare during the 2019/20 season.

But he has since returned to the Reading first-team, and has caught the eye with some strong performance at both right-back and in the centre of Reading's defence.

Holmes has made 38 appearances in this year's campaign, and will be hoping that he can continue to impress heading towards the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

Tom McIntyre is level with Holmes at number one, with the central defender signing for the club back in 2008.

It's been a remarkable rise to the Reading first-team for McIntyre, with the 22-year-old featuring regularly for the club's senior side when deemed fully-fit.

He has made 44 appearances in total for Reading so far, as well as being capped at international level for Scotland's Under-23s side.

McIntyre is a well-known Reading supporter, and has been seen supporting the club at various games across the country in the past when he's not involved in the matchday squad.
