It looks set to be another summer of transition for Nottingham Forest as Chris Hughton looks to revamp his squad.

Five loan players currently on the Reds' books are set to return to their parent clubs, and they also have a number of players out of contract in the summer.

Samba Sow, Michael Hefele, Michael Dawson and Abdoulaye Diallo are all likely to be let go, and the futures of Sammy Ameobi and Yuri Ribeiro also appear uncertain.

The huge turnover of players year in, year out makes it almost impossible for Forest fans to build long-term relationships with the squad.

In fact, there will be some players who leave the club this summer who may have never been given the chance to play in front of the Garibaldi faithful.

In terms of the club's longest-serving players, who have been the books for the longest amount of time?

Here, we take a look at the top 10...

Ribeiro was Sabri Lamouchi's second signing in charge of Forest after Tiago Silva joined from Feirense.

Ribeiro penned a permanent move from Benfica to the City Ground on the 8th of July 2019.

The left-back battled it out with Jack Robinson for a place in the side in the first half of last season, but Ribeiro's performances eventually saw him become a regular.

Robinson ended up leaving for Sheffield United, with Ribeiro establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in the league last season.

His performances haven't been good as last season this time around, and with his contract up in the summer, his future appears uncertain.

After leaving Bolton Wanderers upon the expiry of his contract, Ameobi moved to Forest on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

He ended up being Forest's first signing of the summer, but Martin O'Neill's final signing in charge of the Reds.

Despite a change in management, Ameobi was a key player under Lamouchi last season, scoring five goals and registering a number of assists in 45 league outings.

This season, Ameobi has three goals and two assists in the Championship, but is currently out injured and his contract is also up in the summer.

It remains to be seen what lies in store for the towering winger.

You would be forgiven for forgetting that Hefele was still on Forest's books.

The German defender helped Huddersfield Town reach the Premier League in 2016/17, and joined Forest on a free transfer from the Terriers in 2018/19 on the 9th of August 2018.

Hefele made 15 appearances for Forest in his first season at the City Ground under the tutelage of Aitor Karanka.

But the centre-half hasn't made a single appearance since New Year's Day in 2019 - a 4-2 home win over Leeds United.

With his contract up in the summer, he is almost certain to leave the City Ground for nothing this summer.

Forest worked incredibly hard to get this particular deal over the line.

After scoring 20 goals for Aston Villa and Sunderland combined in 2017/18, Forest paid £6million to lure Grabban to the City Ground from Bournemouth on the 6th of July 2018.

In his first season at the City Ground, he fired in 17 goals under Karanka and O'Neill.

Last season, he became the first player in 16 years to score 20 goals in a single league campaign, spearheading Forest to within touching distance of the play-offs.

He has six goals in 26 league outings this season, and has been such a key player since moving from the South Coast.

Dawson obviously came through the ranks at Forest and made his debut as a youngster, before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2005.

But the centre-half, after a good spell at Hull, returned to Forest in the summer of 2018 after leaving the KCOM Stadium.

Dawson featured sporadically under Lamouchi last season and eventually lost his place in the team due to injury.

He hasn't made a single appearance under Chris Hughton this season, though, and was seen doing punditry duties for Tottenham's Carabao Cup final clash with Manchester City at the weekend.

That tells a story about where Dawson's future may lie when his contract expires in the summer.

Figueiredo impressed when he joined Forest on loan from Sporting CP in the second half of the 2017/18 season.

Enough so, that he earned himself a permanent stay at the City Ground, with his deal going through on the first day of July 2018.

Figueiredo, in total, has racked up 94 appearances for the Reds, and has been a key player at times over the last three years.

Ultimately, he has lost his place in the side to Scott McKenna and Joe Worrall due to injury, and his game time could be an issue next season given the emergence of the defensive duo.

Lolley was another one who arrived midway through the 2017/18 campaign for an undisclosed fee from Huddersfield Town.

Lolley scored 11 goals and added 11 assists in his first full season at the City Ground.

Last season under Lamouchi, the winger scored nine goals and added nine assists in another impressive campaign for the attacker.

But this season, injuries have been frustrating for Lolley, who has made 28 league appearances and contributed to only three goals.

Fans will be desperate to see him return to his best next season.

Yates joined up with the first-team in July 2016 and was given a place in the squad before the 2016/17 campaign.

He then headed to Barrow on loan for first-team experience, and was then sent on loan to League One side Shrewsbury in the second half of the campaign.

The next season saw him spend time on loan at Notts County in League Two and at Scunthorpe back in League One.

He was then given a chance in the first-team by Martin O'Neill in 2018/19, and has since gone from strength to strength.

Yates is now a key player in midfield under Chris Hughton and wears his heart on his sleeve.

Coming in at joint-first is Jordan Smith.

Smith was part of the first-team squad in 2015/16, but didn't end up making his debut until February 2017, coming on as a sub for the injured Stephen Henderson.

Smith then made 29 league appearances in 2017/18, but has since played backup to the likes of Costel Pantilimon and Brice Samba.

This season, he has made only one appearance in the Championship which came in a 2-0 home defeat to Norwich City.

But he has been patient and worked hard in training to keep himself in and around the team.

Worrall was also named in the Forest squad for the 2015/16 campaign and ended up moving on loan to Dagenham and Redbridge with Matty Cash.

He made his first-team debut for Forest the season after in a 2-0 defeat to Reading, and has since racked up 135 appearances for the club.

Worrall spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Rangers in what was a really rewarding campaign for the defender.

He's since returned to the City Ground and been a regular in the heart of defence, establishing himself as one of the division's best centre-backs.

Fans will be desperate to see him remain at the City Ground beyond this summer amid inevitable interest.
