AFC Bournemouth have had their fair share of players that have gone to bigger and better things over the years, with some players making a name for themselves away from the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries are currently playing their football in the Championship, and are in contention to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking this term.

Jonathan Woodgate's side are sat seventh in the second-tier standings, but are just two points adrift of the play-off positions heading into the weekend.

They're set to take on sixth-placed Barnsley, in a game that could go a long way to deciding which team is to finish in the top-six this season.

We take a look at the top-ten best players that AFC Bournemouth have produced from their academy. Do you agree though?

McQuoid came through the club's academy system in 2002 after signing from Southampton.

He went on to make over 60 appearances for Bournemouth in his first spell with the club. McQuoid departed in favour of a move to Millwall in 2011, and had a brief spell with Burnley whilst with the Lions.

The winger then re-signed for Bournemouth in 2012, and played his part in the club's promotion-winning seasons in 2o13 and 2015.

McQuoid has since had spells with Luton Town and Aldershot Town, and was most recently with non-league side Weymouth.

He was also capped at senior level for the Northern Ireland national team from 2010-2011.

Jayden Stockley is next up, with the 27-year-old coming through Bournemouth's academy in 2009, as he broke into the first-team setup.

But the forward only went on to make 20 appearances for the Cherries, before making the move to Aberdeen in 2016. It was a frustrating time for Stockley whilst with Bournemouth, as he was sent out on loan to nine different clubs whilst with them.

After an impressive spell with Exeter City, Stockley went on to sign for Preston North End, where he has since made 71 appearances in his time with the club.

Stockley is currently out on loan with League One side Charlton Athletic, and will be hoping he can make a positive impact with the Addicks, as they target promotion into the Championship this term.

Howe is at number eight, with the 43-year-old having two separate spells at the club during his playing career.

The former Cherries defender made over 180 appearances in total for the Bournemouth, and also had a brief spell with Portsmouth in between his two spells with Bournemouth.

Howe remains a popular figure with the club, as he went on to guide them to three promotions as the their manager, before leaving the managerial post after Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.

Howe's impact on and off the pitch during his time as a player will have been valuable for a number of players in his time with the club.

Hayter is next on the list, with the forward making over 150 appearances for Bournemouth's first-team after breaking into the senior squad back in 1997, and scored 63 goals in total for the club.

He scored consistently each season towards the end of his time with the Cherries, before earning a move to Doncaster Rovers in May 2007, for a club-record fee at the time.

The forward enjoyed spells with Yeovil Town and Weymouth after that, before finishing his career with Havant & Waterlooville in 2018.

Hayter has an impressive goal record at the majority of clubs he's been at, and is a player that will be held in high-regard at Bournemouth for years to come.

Sam Vokes is next, with the forward spending his youth career with AFC Bournemouth.

He made 56 appearances in total for the club's first-team, but opted to leave the Cherries in 2008, after signing for Wolves after Bournemouth were relegated into League Two.

Vokes had a number of loan spells at various clubs including the likes of Leeds United, Bristol City and Sheffield United whilst with Wolves.

His seven-year spell with Burnley reached a conclusion in 2019, and he is now with Championship side Stoke City, who will be looking to edge out Bournemouth in the race to finish in the top-six in the second-tier this term.

Fletcher made his debut for AFC Bournemouth at the age of 17, and went on to feature heavily for the Cherries across a seven-year spell.

The midfielder went on to sign for West Ham United in 2004, and spent two years with the club, before going on to sign for Crystal Palace.

Fletcher had loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Plymouth Argyle whilst with the Eagles, and made the permanent move to Argyle in 2009.

He then finished his playing career with Barnet, before moving into management with Plymouth Argyle, and most recently in 2019, whilst with Leyton Orient, although he was sacked after just 29 days in charge of them.

Holmes is next up, with the midfielder making over 100 appearances for Bournemouth, across a four-year spell with the club's first-team.

He went on to sign for West Ham United in 1992, and spent three years with the Hammers, before opting to join Blackburn Rovers.

But he endured a frustrating time with them, as he found game time hard to come by, before going on to sign for Charlton Athletic in 1997.

Holmes finished his playing career with Dorchester Town, and featured regularly for them in a four-year spell, which came to an end in 2004.

Pitman is next up, with the forward playing his part in a memorable few seasons with the Cherries.

Pitman scored 100 goals in 289 appearances in total for AFC Bournemouth, and was part of the teams that won the League Two, League One and Championship title.

He's a player that will be fondly remembered for his service to the club, which came to an end in 2010.

Pitman returned to Bournemouth in 2013 after a spell with Bristol City, before leaving again in 2015. He is now playing his football with Swindon Town in League One, where he has scored seven goals in 28 appearances for the Robins this term, as they battle to survive in the third-tier.

Ings is in at number two as one of Bournemouth's best players that they've produced from their academy.

The forward was with Bournemouth from 2008 to 2011, and went on to make 29 appearances for the club's first-team, before departing in favour of a move to Burnley on a four-year deal.

Ings has since played for the likes of Liverpool as well, but is now playing his football with Southampton, where he has gone on to catch the eye with a number of impressive performances.

The 28-year-old has scored nine goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for Southampton this season, and could be in contention to challenge for a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the European Championships.

Jamie Redknapp is at number one, with the midfielder for the AFC Bournemouth first-team, after breaking through from the club's academy system.

His stint in the first-team was a brief one though, as Redknapp went on to sign for Liverpool in 1991, where he made 308 appearances for the Reds.

He then moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2001, but struggled with injury problems, which restricted his game time with the London-based club.

Redknapp finished his playing career with Southampton in 2005, and also represented the England senior team during his playing career.
