Reading have had their fair share of signings over the years from outside of England, with some making more of a positive impact than others.

The Royals are currently sat sixth in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can put together a positive run of results in the near future, as they target promotion back into the Premier League.

The Berkshire-based side made a blistering start to this year's campaign, and will be eager to hold their nerve in the race for promotion after some disappointing results since the turn of the New Year.

They take on promotion-chasing rivals Watford at Vicarage Road in their next match, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Veljko Paunovic's side.

We take a look at the top-ten best ever foreign Reading FC imports from over the years, but do you agree with them?

Find out which player is first up on the list, on the next page....

Ibrahima Sonko is the first name on the list, with the former Reading defender making over 130 appearances for the Berkshire-based side.

He was born in Senegal, and was with the likes of Saint-Étienne as a youngster, before starting his senior career with Grenoble. He then made the move to English football with Brentford, before moving to Reading in 2004.

Sonko spent four years with Reading at the Madejski Stadium, and played his part in the club's promotion-winning campaign in the 2005/06 season.

After the Royals were relegated back into the Championship after two seasons in the top-flight, Sonko was snapped up by Stoke City in 2008. He finished his playing career with non-league side Harlow Town.

Notable names to miss out on a place in the top-ten were Bobby Convey, Brynjar Gunnarsson and Lucas Joao.

Danny Williams is ninth on the list, with the American international signing for the club in 2015 from German side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

The midfielder was born in Germany, and spent the early years of his career there, before moving to England. He made over 150 appearances for Reading, but his spell ended in disappointment, as they failed to win promotion into the Premier League after a defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final.

Williams went on to sign for the Terriers soon after, before signing for Cypriot side Pafos FC. He left the club at the end of the 2019/20 season though, and is yet to be sign for a new club since.

Williams was a firm fans favourite in his time at the Madejski Stadium, with his work-ethic in the centre of midfield not going unnoticed.

Stephen Hunt spent four years with Reading, after signing for the club in 2005 from Brentford.

Hunt was born in Port Laoise in Ireland, but started his career with Crystal Palace. He was a regular in the Reading team that won promotion into the Premier League in the 2005/06 season, and went on to feature heavily for the Royals in the top-flight from then on.

He scored seven goals and was on hand to provide 21 assists for his Reading team-mates in his final season with the club, before moving to Hull City in 2009.

But after spells with Wolves and Ipswich Town, Hunt called time on his playing career after a brief spell with Coventry City.

Yann Kermorgant is next up, with the Frenchman signing for Reading in 2016 after a spell with AFC Bournemouth.

Kermorgant had played his part in Bournemouth's promotion-winning season, and will have been hoping to replicate that with the Royals.

The forward almost did that as well, as he scored 19 goals in 48 appearances for Reading in the 2016/17 season, as they narrowly missed out on promotion into the Premier League after a defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final.

Kermorgant left the club in 2016, and went on to finish his playing career with Vannes back in France in 2018.

Ívar Ingimarsson is next up on the list at number six, with the former Reading captain making over 250 appearances for the Royals in total.

Ingimarsson started his career in Iceland with Valur, but made the move to English football after a spell with IBV, as he moved to Brentford in 1999.

But he signed for Reading in 2003 after spending a season with Wolves. The defender established himself as a regular in the starting XI with Reading, and even won the club's Player of the Season in the 2006/07 season, which was their first in the Premier League.

He departed the club in 2011, as Ingimarsson went on to sign for Ipswich Town after being released from his contract with Reading.

Jimmy Kebe is another player that plenty of the Madejski Stadium faithful will hold on high regard for his impact with the Berkshire-based club.

Kebe arrived at Reading in 2008 after a spell with French side Lens, and went on to make 190 appearances in total for the Royals over a five-year spell.

The winger scored 31 goals and was on hand to provide 45 assists in total for the Royals, and he played his part in the club's promotion-winning season in the 2011/12 campaign.

Kebe departed in favour of a move to Crystal Palace in 2013, before calling time on his playing career after a spell with Spanish side Real Mallorca in 2016.

Marcus Hahnemann is fourth on the list, with the former Reading goalkeeper making over 280 appearances for the club, after signing for Reading on a free transfer in 2002.

He had previously been on the books with the likes of Fulham, Colorado Rapids, but started his career with Seattle Sounders.

Hahnemann was a regular in the Reading team in their promotion-winning campaign in the 2005/06 season, and featured heavily whilst they were in the Premier League as well.

He departed the club in 2009, as the goalkeeper moved to Wolves. But the shot-stopper returned to Seattle Sounders to finish his playing career in 2014.

Shane Long is the first name in the top-three of the list, with the Irishman signing for the club in 2005.

Long arrived from Irish side Cork City, and went on to make 199 appearances in all competitions for the Royals. He featured a small number of times in the club's first season in the Premier League, but made more of an impact when they dropped back into the Championship after two seasons in the top-flight.

Long netted 25 goals in the 2010/11 season with Reading, in a campaign which ended in disappointment, as they were beaten by Swansea City in the Championship play-off final.

He then left the club the following season, as he moved to West Brom. But he's now playing for AFC Bournemouth in the second-tier, whilst on loan from Southampton.

Kevin Doyle is next up, with the former Reading forward playing a starring role for the club in their promotion-winning campaign in the 2005/06 season.

Doyle first signed for Reading in 2005 from Irish side Cork City, and certainly adjusted well to the step into English football.

Doyle scored 55 goals in 159 appearances for Reading, which included 13 goals in the club's first season in the Premier League. He departed in 2009 in favour of a move to Wolves.

He has since gone on to play for the likes fo Crystal Palace and QPR, before calling time on his playing career after a spell with Colorado Rapids in 2017.

Doyle will be fondly remembered by the Madejski Stadium faithful for his services to the club.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is in at number one on the list, with the Icelandic midfielder catching the eye with a number of impressive performances for the Royals over the years.

The midfielder signed for the club as a youngster back in 2005 after a spell with Breiðablik. Sigurdsson wasted no time in making a positive impact with the Berkshire-based side's first-team, as he went on to score 22 goals and be on hand to provide nine assists for the Royals in his time with them.

He departed in favour of a move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in 2010, before going on to play for the likes of Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur.

But the Icelander is now playing his football for Everton under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, and will be hoping he can impress, as they head towards the end of this year's campaign, with Sigurdsson likely to be involved in the Iceland squad for the upcoming Euros.
