Norwich City have turned on the style in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with Daniel Farke’s side Premier League-bound once more after a really classy campaign.

Throughout the entirety of 2020/21, they have been the Championship’s standout side, serving up epic performance after epic performance.

Over Easter, Farke’s side dispatched Huddersfield Town 7-0, with Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia starring at Carrow Road and really putting the Terriers to the sword with a slick attacking performance.

Pukki registered a hat-trick (his second for Norwich), whilst Buendia bagged a goal and three assists.

That pair are, undoubtedly, two of the best foreign imports ever at Carrow Road, which has got us thinking about a top-10 list of foreign imports ever to pass through at Norwich.

We rank 10 household names:

Pinto was on the books at Norwich between 2016 and 2019, where he made 94 appearances for the Canaries in defence.

The Portuguese was a popular player amongst supporters, featuring for Norwich in both the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.

His final campaign with the Canaries was the memorable 2018/19 campaign, although Pinto only managed to feature on five occasions in all competitions, with Daniel Farke leaning on a more youthful group of players.

Nevertheless, Pinto goes down as one of Norwich’s best overseas recruits, with the defender’s best spell of his career coming when he was playing at Carrow Road.

Vrancic remains on the books at Norwich City and has been part of Daniel Farke’s most trusted midfield players over the last couple of seasons.

Thinking back, Vrancic was key to getting Norwich over the line in the race for promotion in 2018/19, scoring 10 goals and registering seven assists in 36 appearances in the Championship.

Despite not quite hitting those heights again in the Premier League, Vrancic has impacted Norwich in the Championship this season, scoring three goals and registering five assists.

In total it is 131 appearances for the midfielder and 17 goals across all competitions.

The Bosnian is an undoubted hit.

Krul had spells with Newcastle United, Carlisle and Brighton and Hove Albion before making the move to Norwich, whilst the goalkeeper was also a household name with the Netherlands.

Since his move to Carrow Road in 2018, the goalkeeper has excelled, making 115 appearances for the Canaries.

His first season with Norwich saw them win promotion and the Championship title, then he missed only two Premier League fixtures for the Canaries last year.

Krul’s third season with the club looks like ending with another promotion and another Championship title, with the Dutchman excelling once more behind the EFL’s standout side.

Nedergaard was a Danish recruit at Carrow Road, arriving to link up with Norwich around the Millennium.

The defender featured regularly for Norwich over the course of three seasons between 2000 and 2003, making 97 appearances for the Canaries across all competitions and scoring five goals.

Whether he had the same success as some of those that have gone before him is up for debate, but when you consider Nedergaard featured consistently at a time when foreign recruits were not what they are now, he must have been a success.

Averaging over 32 appearances per season, it’s a steady pick.

Another modern-day great at Norwich is Christoph Zimmermann, who made the move to Carrow Road from Borussia Dortmund back in 2017.

During his time with Norwich, the defender has managed to make 134 appearances across all competitions, with almost 100 starts coming in the league during that time.

Zimmermann has been part of a group of players to take the Championship by storm twice, as well as feature in the Premier League.

His influence this season stretches to 24 appearances across all competitions, with the 28-year-old proving to be a real quality overseas signing over the years for the Canaries.

Klose arrived at Norwich in 2016 for a multi-million pound fee from Wolfsburg.

The Swiss international would be another to go on and be an undoubted success in a Norwich shirt, surpassing 100 appearances with ease during his time with the Canaries.

Looking back on Norwich’s promotion-winning campaign in 2018/19, Klose made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals for the Canaries, which included a late brace in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Now 32, Klose has moved on and is playing his football with Basel back in Switzerland.

He’s made 22 appearances back in the Swiss league and scored two goals after a successful stint with Norwich in England.

Van Wijk arrived at Norwich from Ajax and is another Dutchman to make this list of foreign recruits.

Across his career with Norwich, van Wijk made 155 appearances for the Canaries, helping them to a Milk Cup success and a Second Division title.

Coming to England in the 1980s was never going to be easy, but van Wijk managed to forge a decent career for himself with Norwich and was one successful overseas addition at the club.

However, he doesn’t quite break into the top-three of this list, which contains some very, very familiar names with current Norwich supporters.

Buendia has been a sensational signing by Norwich, who moved to bring the Argentinian to Carrow Road from Leonesa back in the summer of 2018.

Inside his first season, Buendia scored eight goals and registered 12 assists to fire Norwich into the Premier League.

Despite relegation in 2019/20, Buendia excelled, yet he stuck around at Carrow Road for another season in the Championship.

The 24-year-old is now closing in on 30 goals involvements for the season.

He’s one of Norwich’s best ever signings when you look at value for money and what he’s delivering right now.

115 appearances and 22 goals already, Buendia isn’t finished yet.

Alongside Buendia, Pukki has been sensational at Norwich over the course of the last three seasons.

The Finnish striker had flopped at Celtic previously and raised eyebrows when he rocked up at Carrow Road for the 2018/19 campaign.

Pukki scored 30 goals in his first season with Norwich, earning them promotion into the Premier League. Then, in the top-flight, Pukki scored 11 goals in a side that really struggled, further flexing his goalscoring ability.

Even after stepping back into the Championship, Pukki’s levels haven’t dipped, with the 31-year-old scoring 25 goals already this season and looking a good bet to match his tally of 30 again.

Such a shrewd addition.

Both Buendia and Pukki are exceptional players and they will have two Championship titles under their belt in the space of three seasons, but they don’t make the top of this list.

That’s reserved for Alex Tettey, who arrived at Carrow Road in 2012.

The midfielder has made 259 appearances for Norwich during his time at the club, scoring just eight goals, but managing to provide a consistent figure in the engine room throughout his time as a Norwich player.

He doesn’t get the goals like Buendia and Pukki, but Tettey certainly deserves as much respect for what he’s given to the club.
