Huddersfield Town have had their fair share of foreign imports to really light up the John Smith’s Stadium over the years.

It’s always nice to see a homegrown talent like Lewis O’Brien thriving in the first team, but there’s a nice drifting thought to the possibility of a foreign signing coming in and doing the business.

When you think back over the last decade, there have been a number of impressive foreign players at Town, whether they’ve been signed from abroad or picked up from another English club.

Thinking back to Town’s promotion in 2016/17, the heartbeat of that side was made up of foreign imports.

So, that’s got us thinking about Huddersfield’s top 10 foreign imports and where they rank within the club’s history.

Check out who we’ve ranked at No.10 on the following slide..

Billing was picked up by Huddersfield at a very young age, bringing the midfielder to England from Denmark.

Between 2013 and 2019, Billing managed to make 91 appearances and score six goals for the Terriers.

He featured 28 times during Huddersfield’s promotion-winning campaign in 2016/17, as well as 45 appearances across two seasons in the Premier League with the Terriers.

Bournemouth swooped to sign him in 2019 for £15m, with Huddersfield really managing to cash in on the midfielder following their decision to bring him to the UK from Denmark at such a young age.

An undoubted hit when you consider all that.

If you maybe look at Billing and Bacuna in terms of their talent, you’d have Billing ahead of Bacuna.

However, Bacuna is fast approaching 100 appearances for the Terriers now and, under a number of managers, has managed to keep himself in and around the starting XI.

He’s unpredictable, a bit in consistent and can be really frustrating to watch. However, he’s had some stunning moments in a Huddersfield shirt.

Bacuna has 11 goals to his name since signing for Huddersfield, which includes four in the current campaign under Carlos Corberan, who has become the latest head coach to have the Curacao international at the heart of the side.

Between 1998 and 1999, the Dutchman was on the books across West Yorkshire at Leeds United.

However, as the squad at Elland Road evolved, there was no future for Wijnhard with Leeds, which led him to the door of Huddersfield.

In 1999/2000, the forward got off to a flying start for Huddersfield, scoring on his debut against QPR and then bagging a hat-trick not long after against Crystal Palace.

By the end of his first season wit the Terriers, Wijnhard had scored 16 goals.

However, injuries impacted his impact from there and those heights were never reached again in a Huddersfield shirt.

Had it not been for those injuries, he might have featured much, much higher in this list of foreign imports.

Huddersfield moved to pick up Lowe from Kaiserslautern on a pre-contract agreement ahead of 2016/17.

That was, of course, a really memorable season for the Terriers, with Lowe really managing to make an impact at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Making 44 appearances in the league and play-offs, Lowe helped Huddersfield win promotion to the Premier League, before embarking on the top-flight with purpose.

Lowe managed 52 Premier League appearances for the Terriers, before his spell with Huddersfield came to an end as the club  prepared for life back in the EFL.

Now 31, Lowe is with Dyn Dresden and playing in Germany again.

Kachunga was another part of that promotion-winning side in the Championship with Huddersfield, bagging himself 12 goals in the 2016/17 campaign.

That does sway our thinking with Kachunga’s ranking.

In total, Kachunga made 128 appearances for Huddersfield, with his permanent move proving to be a lot less prolific than his loan spell.

However, as we mentioned earlier, his impact in the 2016/17 season, whilst on loan, was superb and ended in promotion.

12 goals in that promotion-winning campaign is hard to ignore and gets Kachunga a place in this top-10.

He’s currently with Sheffield Wednesday across the Championship.

Wells arrived at Huddersfield from Bradford City, with the Bermudan having a great impact on the Terriers.

Between 2014 and 2017, Wells made 152 appearances for the Terriers and scored an impressive 48 goals across all competitions.

He signed off with promotion to the Premier League, before making the move to Burnley and taking a different route into the top-flight.

Since then, Wells has signed for Queens Park Rangers and then Bristol City, and now finds himself back in the Championship.

He’s actually struggled to ever replicate the kind of form that he showed with Huddersfield over his spell at the John Smith’s Stadium, where he was an undoubted hit.

Gorre was signed by Huddersfield from Ajax in 1999, with the midfielder having a great impact on the Terriers following his arrival in English football.

Between 1999 and 2001, Gorre made a total of 68 appearances and scored seven goals for Huddersfield during that time.

Such was his success at Huddersfield, Gorre would also go on to play for Barnsley an Blackpool in England, with the midfielder easy on the eye and one of Huddersfield’s better foreign imports.

He didn’t win promotion like the class of 2016/17, but he was something of a class act in the midfield and deserves a place within the top-10 on this article.

The German centre-back was a huge hit at Huddersfield when he arrived in 2016.

Hefele scored on his Championship debut against Aston Villa, got a brace in an FA Cup clash with Rochdale and scored a really famous goal for the Terriers against Leeds United.

2016/17 was a season to remember for the Terriers, with Hefele a cult-hero on the club’s way to the Premier League.

It didn’t really work out for Hefele on the back of 2016/17, with injuries really impacting him since he made the move to Nottingham Forest in August 2018.

With the Reds, the centre-back has made only 15 appearances in the Championship.

In terms of talent, Mooy is probably one of the best Huddersfield have seen in the last decade, with the Australian midfielder a promotion winner during his spell at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Mooy scored four goals and registered seven assists on the way to promotion, pulling the strings for David Wagner in the midfield.

He adapted easily to the Premier League too, scoring seven goals across two seasons in the top-flight.

Brighton and Hove Albion swooped to sign Mooy on the back of Huddersfield slipping back into the EFL, with the 30-year-old since moving on the Shanghai Port.

A quality addition at Huddersfield, though.

Schindler will go down a legend at Huddersfield Town, with it looking like the current club captain’s spell at the John Smith’s Stadium will be coming to an end in the summer.

He was the man to lead Huddersfield back into the Premier League, having arrived in England from 1860 Munich in the summer of 2016.

184 appearances for the Terriers across the Premier League, Championship, play-offs and cup competitions, Schindler has to top this list.

It will be a shame to see him leave in the coming summer, but he will be fondly remembered by all at the John Smith’s Stadium.
