Coventry City are enduring a difficult old season this term.

After winning League One last term the hope was that the Sky Blues could kick on this term and consolidate their status as a Championship club.

However with the season moving into the final chapter it seems that Mark Robins' side will settle for avoiding the drop as they continue to be dragged into a relegation battle.

If they're to avoid the drop they'll need their players to step up to the plate.

Coventry have had some wonderful players over the years with many of them coming from outside of England.

But who are the club's best ever foreign imports? We take a look at our top 10.

The striker is arguably one of the highest profile foreign players to move to Coventry City, but unfortunately his time wasn't a huge success.

Moldovan had thrived with the likes of Dynamo Bucharest and Grasshoppers Zurich after thriving in Romania and Switzerland before taking the challenge of moving to the English Premier League.

Coventry was his destination but unfortunately his time with the club was short-lived.

The Romanian legend made just 14 appearances for the club and scored two goals before moving on to join Fenerbahçe where he quickly found his goalscoring boots once again.

Definitely one of the biggest names to play for the club, but not with the club long enough to rank higher.

Another who perhaps failed to live up to his undoubted ability.

Hadji was a top player after proving himself as one of the best with Nancy, Sporting Lisbon and Deportivo La Caruna in Spain.

In 1999 after a successful World Cup with Morocco Hadji made the move to Coventry City.

The attacking midfielder spent two years with the Sky Blues and managed 62 appearances for the club during that time, scoring a respectable 12 goals in the process.

However with Coventry suffering relegation in 2001 Hadji moved on before supporters were able to really see him at his best.

A player who perhaps features as a current player for the club.

Biamou joined Coventry City back in 2017 and while he's struggled for consistency during his time at the club there's no doubt as to his contribution over the years.

The 30-year-old has struggled with injuries during his time with the Sky Blues but has still managed to score some important goals along the way.

Biamou scored 11 goals in all competitions last term to help Coventry to secure promotion by winning League One, while he's also managed five goals this term as well.

He might not be the most talented foreign player to feature for the club but his contribution can't be underestimated.

The midfielder went on to become a real favourite in the English game, but it all started with Coventry City.

After thriving in Holland with Feyenoord, Boateng moved to Coventry City in 1999 where he thrived under Gordon Strachan and provided the defensive stability needed to help an offensive-minded side to thrive.

Boateng was a popular figure but moved to Aston Villa the following year where he spent three years before moving on to Middlesbrough.

The midfielder undoubtedly has a soft spot for Coventry City supporters still and there's no doubt that the impact he made during that season earns him a spot in our top 10.

A player who could be higher up on the list for longevity alone.

Adebola moved to Coventry City in 2003 after spending five years with Birmingham City and Crystal Palace.

The striker spent five years with the Sky Blues in which he struggled to really show his best form as he was sent out on loan on numerous occasions.

However his time at the club ended with 35 goals to his name - a tally that can't be sniffed at, even if it did take 175 appearances to reach that tally.

He then went on to join Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Hull City before retiring from the game.

Another player who was certainly very popular at the old Highfield Road.

Ndlovu joined the club in 1991 and played a key role in helping Coventry City to establish themselves as a Premier League side.

The striker spent six years with the Sky Blues and was a regular part of the first team set-up, with his enthusiasm for the game making him a likable player for supporters to watch.

Unfortunately inconsistency was Ndlovu's biggest issue with the striker scoring 36 goals in 164 appearances for the club.

But while more talented players would certainly follow at Coventry City, few can dispute his contribution to the club's success in the 1990s.

After coming through the youth ranks in his native Republic Of Ireland it was in England where the striker would prove himself as the real deal.

Keane started his career in England with Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Coventry City in 1999.

The forward spent just one year with the Sky Blues - the key reason why he's not higher on our list - but did score an impressive 12 goals in 31 appearances for the club before moving on to join Inter Milan the following year.

He went on to become one of the Premier League's best strikers with successful spells with Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

However Coventry fans will remember that it was with them that he first made his mark in the English game.

The midfielder was a key player for Coventry City during his time at the club.

Gunarsson moved to the club in 2008 at the age of just 19 but wasted little time in establishing himself as a valuable first team player with the club.

The Iceland international spent three seasons with the Sky Blues as the club battled to try and secure promotion to the Premier League, with Gunarsson winning supporters' player of the year during that time.

Despite expressing his desire to stay with the club, the midfielder ended up moving on from the Sky Blues in 2011 when he left to join Cardiff City.

But given the standard of his performances and the consistency showed over those three years there's no doubt that he was a great addition.

The goalkeeper comes in at number two in our list.

Hedman joined the club in 1997 after leaving Swedish side AIK for a new challenge in the English game.

The stopper spent five years with the Sky Blues and made 137 appearances for the club in that time as they competed in both the Premier League and the Championship.

While his loyalty to the club was questioned at times there's no doubt that he was great addition to the club as he served them for numerous years.

There's no doubt that 'Big Mo' is one of the best foreign recruits that Coventry City have made.

Konjić moved to the club in 1999 during the Sky Blues' time in the Premier League but unfortunately his first season was marred by injury as the club suffered relegation with him making just 19 appearances.

But the Bosnia and Herzogovina international stayed loyal to the club and made a real impact in the following years.

Konjic spent the next three years with the club as they battled to return to the top flight, with the central defender making 138 appearances over those years.

He was even named as captain before eventually being sold to Derby County by Peter Reid.
