Brentford are still very much in the running to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season, although they may well have to do it via the play-offs as it appears that both Norwich City and Watford will claim the top two automatic spots.

Thomas Frank's men are back in action this evening as they host Preston North End at the Brentford Community Stadium and will be looking to get back to winning ways after a disappointing draw against Huddersfield Town on Saturday that left the Bees 10 points adrift of Watford at the time of writing.

A victory for the West London outfit could see them close the gap on Watford to seven points, whilst defeat could open the door for the likes of Swansea City to leap frog them in the table in the weeks ahead as the season winds down towards its conclusion.

The Bees are well known for not just their English talent but also their foreign imports and as a result we have devised a list of the top 10 best ever foreign Brentford imports.

The towering Italian striker was never permanently signed by Brentford and in the end spent two eventful loan spells at Griffin Park as he was continually let out by his then parent club Fulham. He is perhaps best remembered for missing a last minute penalty against Doncaster Rovers which ultimately saw the Bees miss out on promotion to the Championship in 2013, but after that returned for his second stint with the club and finally helped them to get to the second tier under the guidance of Mark Warburton, the club's then manager. In all he played over 50 league games for the club.

A tricky Spanish winger, Jota caught the eye heavily during his time with the Bees due to his skillful and attacking style of play. Originally signed from Celta Vigo in August 2014, the wideman would go on to be known for his spectacular goals and mazy dribbles during his time in a red and white shirt and he formed a lethal part of the club's attack during his three years in the capital before leaving to join Birmingham City in 2017. He has since struggled to repeat the same form that he showcased with the Bees and is now back playing in Spain with Alaves.

A lethal striker at various levels of the Football League pyramid, Hogan eventually got his move to Brentford off the back of scoring a hatful of goals for Rochdale in the lower leagues and would go on to prove a real hit for the Bees up top in what was a spell that ultimately wouldn't last very long with the West London side. In the end the Irish international was snapped up for a sizeable fee by Aston Villa and would go on to struggle to the Midlands before eventually ending up at their city rivals Birmingham City, for whom he now plays for.

The Danish forward enjoyed a prolific spell with the Bees over the course of three years in what was his first venture into English football after spending the majority of his career up that point playing in and around Scandinavia. He would go on to finish as top scorer on numerous occasions for the West London outfit and formed a key part of their attack going forwards. A lucrative move to the Chinese Super League then followed with the Dane joining many European players in the journey to Asia in search of a higher salary. He is now back in Denmark with FC Midtjylland.

A winger or attacking midfielder by trade, Judge would go on to play north of 100 games for the Bees during his time in West London and was a popular figure at Griffin Park before he departed for pastures new with Ipswich Town in January 2019 following some injury and illness problems which disrupted his final few months with the team and ultimately saw him fall out of favour. He is now attempting to get his new side back to the Championship after they were relegated two seasons ago and continues to be a key figure for the Tractor Boys.

The Algerian winger lit up Griffin Park with his dazzling skills and spectacular goals last season and formed a key part of the club's famed BMW attacking trident alongside Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo. His performances in red and white eventually earnt him an initial loan move to West Ham UnDted in the Premier League, with the Hammers having now made that transfer permanent after some impressive displays in the top flight under the guidance of David Moyes. The Bees received a sizeable fee for their player and will no doubt look back fondly at the progressions that he made during his time in West London before his move East.

The pint sized Frenchman was a prolific servant for the Bees during his two year spell with the West Londoners and formed a key part of their attack as they attempted to establish themselves as a Championship club. His best season in a red and white shirt came in the 2018/19 campaign as he netted 28 goals in 49 appearances for the Bees and in the end earnt the club's Player of the Year award for that campaign. A big move to Brighton and Hove Albion and the Premier League would then follow, with the frontman having continued to be brilliant in front of goal with the Seagulls.

The Spanish winger continues to be a brilliant performer and loyal servant for the Bees and has bounced back from his injury hell with ease, taking up a regular starting spot under Frank this term on the left hand side of a three man attack alongside Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo. He first spent a loan spell with the club before then signing permanently later on in his career and has since gone on to become a reliable addition who can contribute heavily with both goals and assists for his side. He has also commented that his injury was the best moment of his career as it allowed his to improve his mentality.

Arguably one of the best goalscorers to have worn a Brentford shirt in recent years, Donaldson makes it to the number two spot for us due to his caps for Jamaica. He scored 24 goals from 56 appearances in the 2012/13 season and earnt himself the club's Player of the Year award before then helping his side to secure promotion to the Championship as they finished as runners up in League One. He then turned down a contract offer from the Bees and ended up signing for Birmingham City instead. He now plays for his hometown club, Bradford City in League Two.

A player who is quite rightly part of Brentford's hall of fame after making north of 500 appearances for the Bees, O'Connor tops our list for the best foreign import at the club after spending 16 seasons as a player in West London. A committed utility player who turned out for Ireland's under-21s, O'Connor went on to win two promotions during his time with the club and would eventually earn a Sir Tom Finney Award for all that he achieved during his time at Griffin Park. Since retiring he has gone on to take up several coaching roles within the club.
