Ahead of the season, Huddersfield Town would've been hoping to be much higher than 19th place after 16 games of their first term back in the Championship.

However, Danny Cowley's arrival has steadied the ship after a torrid start to the 2019/20 campaign and the Terriers will likely be in high spirits–having lost just once and won four times in their last eight games.

At this point, it is difficult to know what Huddersfield's aspirations for the season should be–they're 12 points back from the top six but you never know in the Championship.

With around a third of the current campaign gone, we've ranked the Terriers' seven best performers this season...

Similar to many players in the Terriers squad, Diakhaby has blown a bit hot and cold this season but when he has been on his game he's put in some sparkling performances.

The winger has featured on both flanks this season, with his pace and quick feet causing problems for opposition defenders on multiple occasions.

No player in the squad has provided more assists than the 23-year-old and if Cowley can get him performing more consistently he could be a huge player moving forward.

Injury has limited the centre-backs season but when he has been fit he's been a key part of the Terriers defensive unit.

Kongolo averages the most tackles and the third-most interceptions, clearances, and blocks in the squad, according to Whoscored.

The 25-year-old has returned to fitness in recent weeks, which is a big boost for Cowley's side–expect to see some more strong defensive performances from him this season.

The 22-year-old has been the archetypal super-sub this season and his goals from the bench have played a huge part in Huddersfield's change of fortunes.

Bacuna adds a real dynamism to the midfield and has been excellent in the final third so far–contributing to more goals than anyone in the squad other than Karlan Grant, with four goals and one assist.

Cowley has found now a place for him in the starting XI, so this could be a big season for the young man.

It is no coincidence that the Terriers' upturn in form began close to when Simpson joined the club as a free agent.

The 32-year-old has been fantastic at right-back for the Championship side, helping to solidify Huddersfield's defensive unit, while also offering support in the final third.

There may have been suggestions that he was finished after leaving Leicester City in the summer but Simpson's performances for the Yorkshire club have proved he is far from done.

The German has been a key player at the heart of Huddersfield's backline, starting every single game and providing some impressive defensive displays.

Schindler averages the most aerials won, blocks, and clearances in the squad, as well as averaging the second-most passes per game at an impressive success rate of 82.8%, according to Whoscored.

A product of the Huddersfield academy, O'Brien has become a key player for the Yorkshire club in the 2019/20 campaign–starting all but four league games.

The playmaker has done a phenomenal job of driving the side forward and turning defence into attack.

His one goal and two assists do little justice of the creative influence he has had this season–at just 21, the future looks very bright for O'Brien.

There could only ever be one player to top this list.

Grant has been excellent for the Terriers this season, providing a threat a constant threat and grabbing nine goals and one assist.

The 22-year-old looks a constant danger in the final third and has drawn comparisons to Bournemouth's Callum Wilson.

Grant has been Huddersfield's best and most consistent performer–they must do everything they can not to lose him in January.
