It's safe to say that it's been a frustrating run of results for Sheffield Wednesday, which has seen them fall out of contention to challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship this season.

The Owls had previously occupied a spot inside the play-offs in the second-tier, but a dismal run of form has seen them slide down the Championship at an alarming rate.

Sheffield Wednesday now find themselves sat 12th in the league table, and are nine points adrift of the play-off positions, which will make for concerning reading for both Garry Monk and the club's supporters.

The pressure is clearly on Monk to turn their fortunes around at the earliest of opportunities, although some sections of the Hillsborough faithful are keen to see Monk be dismissed already.

But which players have been bright sparks in this year's campaign for the Owls?

We look at the top-five best Sheffield Wednesday players based off of their WhoScored rating from this season.

Fox has silenced his doubters this season with a number of impressive performances for Garry Monk's side as they look to challenge for promotion this season.

The full-back has made 26 appearances in total for the Owls this term, and has kept the likes of Moses Odubajo out of the starting XI with these strong showings.

Fox recently picked up Sheffield Wednesday's Player of the Month award, and has an average WhoScored rating of 6.91.

Börner is fourth on the list, and has made 29 appearances for the Owls this season.

He formed an impressive partnership with Dominic Iorfa in the heart of the Sheffield Wednesday defence earlier in this year's campaign, when they were occupying a spot in the play-offs.

Börner has an average WhoScored rating of 6.93, and he'll be hoping to play his part in their play-off push this season.

Bannan has been 'Mr Reliable' in recent seasons, which has heightened the pressure on the Scotsman to perform consistently to a high standard in this year's campaign.

He has made 32 appearances so far this term for Garry Monk's side, but was dropped to the substitutes bench in their recent defeat to Reading, which hints that his starting spot could be under threat in the future.

The central midfielder has an average WhoScored rating of 6.98, and will be keen to add to his assist tally, which currently stands at seven this season.

Sheffield Wednesday captain Tom Lees is second on the WhoScored rankings system so far this season, with an average rating of 7.05.

Some of Lees' performances have come under-fire in recent weeks though, which is understandable given that the majority of the squad have been below-par during this dismal run of results.

Lees has made 21 appearances so far this term for the Owls, which might hint as to why he is higher than some of the other members of the squad that have been in the starting XI on a regular basis this season.

This one might not come as a surprise to the majority of Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

Fletcher has scored 12 goals so far in all competitions this season, and has left a sizeable void in attack for Garry Monk's side since he picked up a knee injury earlier this term.

The Scotsman has an average WhoScored rating of 7.40, and Monk will be hoping he can return to action in the near future, to help fire Sheffield Wednesday back up the Championship table after a recent slump in form.
