All things considered, this has been a rather impressive season so far for Blackburn Rovers.

Despite being hit by long-term injuries to key players, and suffering some difficult runs of results at times, Tony Mowbray's side are still in with a good chance of promotion this campaign.

As things stand, Rovers are currently eighth in the Championship table, just three points adrift of the play-off places with 13 games of the season still to be played.

There have of course, been some standout for performances on the pitch for Rovers this season, and plenty of the club's fans will have their own opinion about who has been the club's best so far this season, but what do the stats say?

Here, we've taken a look at Rovers' five best players this season, based on their rankings on WhoScored.com.

Following an impressive end to last season that finally saw him cement himself in Blackburn's starting XI, Lewis Travis has only continued to improve in the current campaign.

The 22-year-old has featured in all but two of his side's league games this season, where his tireless efforts in the centre of Rovers' midfield have been crucial in helping them control games at times, and his pass success rate of 85% is the best at the club of anyone with more than two starts to their name this season.

Those performances have been enough to earn him a rating of 6.83, and joint-fifth on this list, along with the now-departed Cardiff loanee Greg Cunningham, who matches that score for his performances prior to that season-ending injury that saw him return to Wales in January.

Something of a forgotten man in defence these days, the contributions of Derrick Williams earlier in the season are well worth remembering.

With either Darragh Lenihan or Tosin Adarabioyo out through injury at the start of the season, it was Williams who was a mainstay at the heart of the defence for Rovers in the first few months of the campaign, a role he performed impressively.

His three goals - including an absolute screamer against Millwall - doubled his tally from his last three years at the club, while his average of 1.8 interceptions per game is still the best at the club this season.

That was enough to earn him a rating of 6.94 and fourth on this list, before an injury he suffered on international duty in early November allowed the aforementioned duo of Lenihan and Adarabioyo to establish themselves in Rovers' back four.

What a signing Stewart Downing has been for Rovers.

Eyebrows were raised when the 35-year-old free agent arrived at Ewood Park in the summer following his release from Middlesbrough, but this bit of recruitment has proved something of a masterstroke from Mowbray.

Despite his age, Downing has appeared in all but three of Rovers league games this season, and no Blackburn player can match his seven league assists this season, showing he still has both the fitness and ability to compete at this level.

All that is enough to earn Downing a rating of 6.96, and third place in this countdown, meaning it would be no surprise if Blackburn attempt to extend his contract with the club when it expires at the end of this season.

Following an injury-hit start to his time on loan at Ewood Park from Manchester City, Adarabioyo has only grown into his role in the centre of Rovers' defence as the season has gone.

When it comes off, his distribution out from the back is another level, and can often be a useful asset for Blackburn, meaning it is little surprise that his average of 4.5 clearances per game is the best of any player wearing a blue and white shirt this season.

That has been enough secure Adarabioyo a rating of 6.97, second place on this list, and given the news that has recently emerged from UEFA, you imagine some rather relieved glances from back at his parent club.

It is no surprise that Blackburn's worst runs of results since their return to the Championship at the start of last season, seem to have coincided with the absence through injury of Darragh Lenihan.

When he is on the pitch, the Irishman is a huge figure for Rovers, both in terms of his own defensive ability, and the leadership skills he possesses that have seen him handed the captain's armband following Elliott Bennett's apparent fall down the pecking order in recent weeks.

Indeed, only Sam Gallagher - at the opposite end of the pitch - has won more aerial duels than Lenihan for Rovers this season, while no player has played more passes than the 25-year-old, who is also second on this list in terms of clearances and interceptions for the club.

What that does is highlight the all-round contribution Lenihan makes to this side, earning him a rating 7.04, and a well-deserved place at the top of this list.
