It has been a good first year back in the Sky Bet Championship for Sheffield United, even if supporters will be disappointed by their club’s failed play-off push.

For much of the season the Blades have challenged for a place in the play-offs, with results in recent weeks eventually letting Chris Wilder’s side down.

With just two fixtures of the Championship season remaining, the play-offs seem to have slipped away for the Blades, who will be frustrated, yet satisfied with their 2017/18 campaign.

At the start of the season, challenging for the top-six would’ve been a dream for Wilder, but ultimately, he will probably view the season as a missed opportunity.

Either way, Sheffield United’s players have been excellent on occasion this season, withstanding the challenge of the Championship and producing some exceptional performances.

With that in mind, we rank the THREE best performers from within Wilder’s squad this season according to whoscored.com...

Duffy has featured in an advanced midfield role this season in Wilder’s preferred 3-5-2 system, returning three goals and nine assists for the Blades.

The 32-year-old has been so consistent whenever he has played, with the Blades looking a far better outfit with Duffy involved.

Duffy has averaged a 7.1/10 rating.

Fleck has been so impressive in central midfield, particularly since the loss of Paul Coutts in November.

When that duo were together in central midfield, Sheffield United looked unstoppable.

Following Coutts’ injury, many expected Wilder’s side to struggle in midfield, but Fleck has been magnificent, averaging 7.11/10 over the course of the season.

Many might’ve expected to see Leon Clarke here after a fine goalscoring campaign, but O’Connell has averaged a score of 7.14 over the season.

The central defender has been a consistent performer in central defence and made the transition to Championship football look easy.

A superb campaign.
