It has been a disappointing and underwhelming season for Nottingham Forest but they can take some comfort in the fact that they have made an improvement on last year.

It took until the final game of the season for Nottingham Forest to confirm their safety last season, while this year they have been safe but unimpressive for quite a while.

However, given the pre-season ambitions of at least competing for a play-off spot, this season has been a letdown.

Forest fans will be hoping for a better campaign next year.

With little to play for now, it is time to start reflecting on this season for Nottingham Forest.

The truth is that very few players have stood out for the Reds this season under Mark Warburton and Aitor Karanka.

But here, FLW picks the three players who - in our opinion - have been the best for Nottingham Forest over the course of the season.

Matty Cash is not always at the top of his game but he is young, learning and getting better.

The 20-year-old is a regular in Forest's midfield now, either on the wing or through the middle, and he does his job without complaint.

The youngster is having a good season despite Forest's struggles.

Liam Bridcutt has come in for a lot of criticism this season but he has had some good games too.

The former Leeds and Brighton man is an engine in the midfield.

Although he could have done better this season, Bridcutt still merits a spot in the top three.

He may have only played for half a season but Tobias Figueiredo has already overtaken the rest of the Nottingham Forest squad in terms of being the best player this campaign.

The Portuguese defender arrived in January on loan and has already made his stay permanent.

Without him at the back, Nottingham Forest might have shipped a lot more and he narrowly beats fellow January signing, Joe Lolley, to a spot in the top three players this season.
