Bristol City have played in their signature red and white home strip for more than a century – a period that has brought with it cup success, play-off heartbreak, promotion, relegation, and even a few spells in the top flight.

Even as changes to kits have increased over the past 20 years, the Championship club have stayed true to their red home shirts but not shied away from changing things up away from home – with their away strips at times being eye-catching and even controversial.

Today, we've ranked our five favourites from the past two decades. Let us know if you agree...

5. 2020/21

Purple and lime kits are not for everyone but they do hold a special place in the hearts of City fans.

Hummel announced themselves as the Robins' new kit manufacturers in style with the 2020/21 away strip.

4. 2014/15

The 2014/15 purple and lime away strip is far from the finest edition of the colour combo that City have worn but it brings back memories of that glorious League One and EFL Trophy double-winning season.

It's the first of a number of Bristol Sport creations to feature.

3. 2018/19

City brought back their classic club crest, a Robin on a football in front of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, for the 2018/19 away kit so it was one that simply had to feature on our list.

Bristol Sport were the manufacturer of this one, which was a slight twist on the white and black away strip that the South West club have worn plenty of times over the years.

2. 2019/20

Clean and sharp, the 2019/20 all-black away kit with white cuffs and a white sponsors logo was a real thing of beauty.

Hats off to the folks at Bristol Sport, who made this in-house themselves and did a fantastic job at that.

1. 2017/18

Something would be amiss if an iconic purple and lime away kit didn't top our list, wouldn't it?

A throwback to the kit that Brian Tinnion made famous with his goal and celebration against Liverpool in the FA Cup in 1994, the 2017/18 edition – another made in-house by Bristol Sport – was a real beauty.

It's not just us that thought so either as a poll on the EFL Twitter saw it voted the best shirt across the three divisions that season.
