Bolton Wanderers may have only just been promoted back to the third tier of English football but they're already proving to be a force to be reckoned with in League One.

They've burst into the top half within their first campaign back and there was even optimism over a potential play-off push at one point. Whilst the dreams of a top six finish are now done with, there is plenty to work with going into next season.

That's largely down to the squad that boss Ian Evatt has compiled with the Wanderers.

They've competed well with most of the teams in the division and there is plenty of value to be found throughout their ranks.

With that in mind then, here are the 10 most valuable players in the current Bolton squad, according to Transfermarkt's valuations.

Gethin Jones has been with the club since 2020 and has already established himself as a crucial part of the team. With 66 showings to his name, he is a real mainstay and has played more for Bolton than any other team in his career.

He's really found a home with the Wanderers and is continuing to thrive in League One. In 28 outings in the division this year, he has still managed three assists.

He's been less productive in terms of his end product but his workrate and place in the Bolton backline cannot be understated and he just creeps into this list of the ten most valuable players.

Lloyd Isgrove has featured a lot less than he would have liked for Bolton this year back in the third tier, with the player managing only 12 starts for the club so far this campaign. At 29-years-old, he really needs to be playing but he's found himself as more of a bit-part player and rotation option this season.

The former Barnsley man has been there and done that throughout the EFL though and remains a useful option with some value. He's led teams out of League One and League Two and has played in the Championship too. However, with Bolton, he has struggled to re-establish himself as a key member of the side - but that hasn't seen his value decrease too much.

Kyle Dempsey is another who hasn't featured much for Bolton this year but still retains his value. He was a regular for Gillingham and looked like one of the most solid players in that Gills side before deciding to up sticks and relocate to the Wanderers.

He hasn't been able to keep up his good spell of form and frequent gametime with his new side though. This year for the club he has only managed five starts in the third tier and eleven appearances in total in League One and although he has managed one assist along the way, there have been others in the team who are preferred by boss Ian Evatt in the first-team. The 26-year-old though will surely have ample opportunity to get more playing time going forward.

Declan John has increasingly become more proficient and more important for Bolton over the last two seasons and even with the step up to the third tier this campaign, he has taken it in his stride and not looked out of place, In fact, his numbers have been even better in the third tier than in League Two with the Wanderers.

This year he has managed 38 appearances in total - 17 more than last season - and has also upped his production as a result. With three goals and six assists, the 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the club's backline and has been one of the reasons why the club has soared towards the top half of the division. He is now one of Bolton's most valuable players both in terms of his ability and in his literal value too.

After joining Bolton back in the winter window, Sadlier has already become one of the most valuable players in the squad. Granted, he has been limited in terms of his league starts, but when he has been called upon he has often been able to deliver the goods for the club.

He has only seven starts to his name since the move but has 17 appearances for the Wanderers in total but has four goals along the way. That gives the former Rotherham man a goals per 90 average of 0.45 - not bad at all for a midfielder. The 27-year-old is sure to play an even bigger part for the side next season too.

Kieran Lee has only been able to get onto the field in 25 Bolton league games so far this season but he has proven to be good value for money when he does manage to get onto the pitch. With five goals and four assists to his name, he has the joint-second best assist rate at the club right now and the fourth best goalscoring record to boot.

It's no surprise to see him excel given his previous experience in the Football League with Sheffield Wednesday but as a focal point in the team for Bolton down in League One, he is flourishing again. The Wanderers may have been able to pick him up on the cheap but if they were to sell him on again now, he'd fetch a fair bit more than what they paid.

The 36-year-old was instrumental in helping lead Bolton to promotion last season but since the step up in division, he has found gametime a lot harder to come by. With his career also coming to a close - he's nearing 40 now - it's likely that his playing time will continue to suffer as a result.

However, he has still been able to feature in 11 games this season in the league for the club, with six starts, and can be a good rotation option if needed. Considering the amount of experience he has too - stints at Preston, Blackpool and QPR for example - show this and if they need a leader, he can be that voice if needed going forward.

Xavier Amaechi hasn't exactly had the loan spell he wanted at Bolton but that hasn't retracted anything from his value. The youngster, who is on loan from Hamburger SV, has started just two league games for the club this season and has a total of ten appearances to his name so far this campaign. He hasn't quite made the impression he would have liked but at 21-years-old there is plenty of time to continue to develop.

It's also his first loan spell in England, so it's a complete change of culture and style of play for the midfielder. Still there have been flashes of some good football from Amaechi and he has also been able to get on the scoresheet once to boot. Although he might not be with the club beyond this year, he is one of the most valuable at the squad whilst he is.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has been electric since joining Bolton and few would disagree. In just 11.2 lots of 90 minutes in the league so far, he has managed six goals and two assists. That's an average of 0.72 for goal or assists per 90 at the club - the second-best record at the club. He may be 29-years-old now but he clearly hasn't lost a step.

Considering that Millwall let him go for nothing, Ian Evatt will be quick to thank the Lions for allowing him to join his side in such a deal. He has been a revelation in the third tier and could be a real asset for the club going forward. If they want to push on again next season, Bodvarsson could be a huge help in doing so.

The most valuable player in the Bolton squad is Elias Kachunga. He hasn't been a regular starter - only 15 league starts attests to that - but he is often used when he is fit, with the player even coming off the bench plenty of times this season. With 31 games to his name this season, he has been one of their most used players and with good reason. He is a reliable face for the club and can still have plenty of end product too.

He's already outperformed his time at Sheffield Wednesday and is close to hitting the same numbers he managed during his last season with Huddersfield. He will continue to be called upon by Bolton and the 30-year-old could arguably be worth the most in terms of transfer value in their entire squad now.
