Barnsley are fighting for their lives once more in the Championship, with Gerhard Struber looking to help the Tykes avoid an instant return to League One.

Flittering between the Championship and League One has been a regular trend for the South Yorkshire club. Currently, they are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, knowing that there are only nine games remaining to save themselves.

Over the years moving between the Championship and League One has seen Barnsley come up against a host of players, some of which have had great success against the Tykes.

With that in mind, we take a look at NINE that have had a lot of success against Barnsley (with a little help from Transfermarkt)…

The current Cardiff City winger has scored six goals and registered four assists against the Tykes in his last 14 appearances.

Included in that was brace at Oakwell in 2017/18, as Aston Villa won 3-0 on a trip to South Yorkshire.

The current West Brom striker has scored six goals in his last eight meetings with the Tykes.

Looking back at the 2013/14 season, Austin struck three goals in two appearances against the Tykes, helping his QPR side on their way to promotion via the play-offs.

Huckerby tormented the Tykes whenever he went up against them, and in his last seven appearances against them, he scored six goals and notched three assists.

He scored twice in two appearances against Barnsley in 2006/07, as his Norwich City side won 5-1 at Carrow Road and 3-1 at Oakwell.

In 16 appearances against the Tykes, Henderson struck six goals.

Henderson scored the winner for Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 win over Barnsley in September 2013.

Martin has scored seven goals and registered two assists in 13 appearances against the Tykes, having success against the South Yorkshire outfit.

The 31-year-old scored in Derby’s 2-2 draw with Barnsley earlier this season, whilst in the 2016/17 campaign he scored twice against the Tykes when on loan with Fulham.

Maynard has seven goals and three assists in seven appearances against Barnsley.

The current Mansfield forward scored in Wigan’s 2-0 win over Barnsley in February 2014, whilst also scoring against them for Bristol City and West Ham in 2011/12.

Stead has seven goals and one assist in just 11 appearances against the Tykes.

In April 2015, Stead scored Bradford City’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

In seven appearances against Barnsley, Parkin has seven goals to his name.

Back in February 2005, his brace was enough to secure Swindon a 2-1 victory over Barnsley, whilst he’d also scored twice the season before against the Tykes.

In 13 appearances against the Tykes, Fryatt has scored nine goals and registered one assist.

In October 2013, Fryatt scored the equaliser against the Tykes for Sheffield Wednesday, whilst his hat-trick for Hull in April 2012 was enough for a 3-1 win.
