Sunderland are facing the prospect of a massive summer in the transfer market.

Since Kyril Louis-Dreyfus completed his takeover the club have been assessing each and every member of the first team squad as the Black Cats look to build a squad that is capable of thriving in both the short and long-term future.

A large part of that could boil down to the club's current promotion battle.

Sunderland could be playing in the Championship next term, but they could also be facing the prospect of another campaign in League One.

With so many players out of contract there's a real question over the value of their playing squad - particularly given how much was spent on some of the players in the ranks.

So which Sunderland players have seen their value decrease the most since their first team debuts? We took to Transfermarkt to find out!

The striker is one of the highest profile players who is out of contract this summer.

Wyke arrived at the Stadium Of Light in the summer of 2018 and made his debut for the club in September that year with a market value of around £315,000.

Since then the 28-year-old has established himself as a key player for the Black Cats after thriving in League One this term, but unfortunately that isn't replicated in his valuation.

With his contract due to expire, Wyke's value has actually dropped since joining the club with the striker now said to be worth just £270,000, a drop of £45,000.

However if he was to extend his stay at the club there's no doubt that his valuation would rocket.

The winger is a player who faces an uncertain future in Sunderland.

Maguire moved to Wearside in the summer of 2018 after leaving Bury for an undisclosed transfer fee.

At that time the winger was said to be valued at around £405,000, a sum which no doubt went up during his time at the club and his ability to score some absolutely stunning goals.

Unfortunately Maguire has fallen out of favour under Lee Johnson this term and has really struggled for regular first team opportunities.

With his contract due to expire his valuation has fallen to £315,000, meaning that it's dropped by £90,000 since arriving at the club.

The full-back moved to the North East after leaving Millwall on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

At the time of the move McLaughlin was said to be valued at around £450,000 which showed just how much of a bargain his Bosman move actually was.

Since then the Northern Irish defender has established himself as a valuable member of the Sunderland squad.

McLaughlin is a regular under Lee Johnson this term but with his contract also set to expire this summer the club have seen his valuation drop to £360,000 - a drop of £90,000 from his value on the day of his debut.

A player who is very much the beating heart of Lee Johnson's Sunderland team.

Power moved to the Stadium Of Light in the summer of 2018 on an initial loan deal which turned into a permanent move the following summer in 2018.

At the time of his club debut in August 2018 the midfielder was valued at £675,000.

After three years as a first team regular, the 27-year-old has seen his value drop by £135,000 to £540,000, however that is likely to be down to his contract situation which has seen his market value plummet.

The only player on the list who isn't out of contract this summer.

Bailey Wright first moved to Sunderland in January 2020 on a loan deal until the end of the season after leaving parent club Bristol City.

His arrival was something of a coup for the Wearsiders with the centre-back valued at around £900,000 when he made his first team debut for Phil Parkinson's side.

Just over a year later and Wright's value has dropped by £180,000 to £720,000.

That could be down to a number of factors such as the fact he's playing in a lower division and has often struggled for fitness during his time at the club.

A player who arrived at the club from Queens Park Rangers in January 2020.

Scowen was an accomplished Championship midfielder with the Hoops and was valued at £900,000 when he completed his move to the Stadium Of Light.

Since then the midfielder has endured a steady career on Wearside but is certainly seen as a valuable player by Lee Johnson's side.

Scowen is out of contract this summer and that has seen his value drop by £180,000 to £700,000.

However this may well increase again if he is offered a new deal with the club this summer.

Undoubtedly the player who has seen his valuation drop the most during his time with Sunderland.

McGeady arrived at the Stadium Of Light in the summer of 2017 when the club suffered relegation from the Premier League.

At the time of his debut, the winger was valued at £3.15million after arriving as a flagship signing for the club as they sought to secure promotion back to the top flight.

Unfortunately McGeady has been part of the side who have really struggled during the last few years and that has seen his value drop significantly.

With a contract that will expire this summer, McGeady is now valued at just £653,000, meaning that his valuation has dropped by £2.5million in just four years.
