Reading have taken a number of Championship clubs by surprise this season under the management of Veljko Paunovic.

The Royals made a blistering start to this year's league campaign, and found themselves top of the second-tier standings in the early stages of the 2020/21 season.

But a lack of considerable squad depth has seen them fall away from the promotion-chasing pack, with a top-six finish looking a tough ask, as they're relying on results from other teams to go in their favour.

Paunovic has used a number of players that have have repaid his faith in them over the course of this season.

It's a much-improved season in terms of where the Royals are going to finish in the Championship table though, which is likely to have seen a number of players' market values increase since they made their debut for the Berkshire-based club.

We take a look at the top-ten Reading players who've had the biggest market value increases since their debuts, using the help of Transfermarkt.

George Puscas is the first name on the list at number ten, with the Romanian international making his debut for the Royals with a market value of £2.7million.

His market value has since risen to £3.6million, which means that we've seen an increase of £900,000 since he signed for the Royals from Italian giants Inter Milan.

Puscas has struggled for a consistent run in the starting XI this season, and has often had to play as the club's second-choice striker behind Lucas Joao in the pecking order.

Therefore, it might come as a surprise to see Puscas' market value increase, and it remains to be seen as to whether the forward has a long-term future at the Madejski Stadium.

Josh Laurent has certainly adjusted well to his new surroundings at the Madejski Stadium, with the midfielder originally signing for Reading with a market value of £90,000.

But he's now worth £1.35million according to Transfermarkt, which is a £1.26million difference, which makes for impressive reading in such a short space of time.

Laurent had previously been on the books with Shrewsbury Town, and will be looking to build on some strong performances in the centre of midfield alongside Andy Rinomhota heading into the 2021/22 season.

He is out-of-contract at the end of the 2021/22 season, and the majority of the Madejski Stadium faithful will be eager to see him extend his stay with the club.

Yakou Meite was a largely unproven talent when he first signed for Reading from PSG, but he's certainly made a positive impact with the Royals over the years.

The Ivorian international has struggled with injuries in this year's campaign, but has scored 41 goals in 122 appearances in total for Reading.

Meite played a significant role in Reading's survival in a tricky few seasons prior to this year's campaign, and will be looking to hit a good run of form from now until the end of this year's campaign.

The winger's market value wasn't known when he made his Reading debut, but he is now has a market value of £1.80million, which earns him a spot at number eight on the list here.

Andy Rinomhota started his career in the lower leagues of English football, and it wasn't clear as to what his market value was when he first signed for the club.

But the midfielder is now worth £2.25million, which puts him tied on the list at number six. Rinomhota's impressive work often goes unnoticed in the Reading team, with the 24-year-old often breaking up the oppositions progress up the pitch.

Rinomhota is out-of-contract in just over a year's time, and it remains to be seen as to whether the club will be looking at offering him a new deal at this stage.

Liam Moore's market value was £1.80million when he made his Reading debut, but he is now worth £4.05million according to Transfermarkt, which puts him sixth on the list, with a market value increase of £2.25million.

The Jamaican international has been a regular for Reading over the years, and has had an important role to play in some tricky few seasons prior to this year's campaign, where they've been battling to retain their status as a Championship club.

Moore has made 212 appearances in total for Reading, but only has one year to run on his current contract at the Madejski Stadium, so it'll be interesting to see how much longer he sticks around with the Berkshire-based side.

Lucas Joao is up next at number five, with the forward having a market value of £2.25million when he made his debut for the Royals.

But the forward made a flying start to life with the Berkshire-based side, and now has a market value of £4.95million, which is a difference of £2.70million.

Joao has scored 22 goals in 37 appearances for Reading this season, but has had his season cut short with a shoulder injury picked up in their recent match against Cardiff City.

Joao's form has tailed off in the second-half of this year's league campaign, and he'll be eager to get back to his best in the 2021/22 season when he returns to action.

Ovie Ejaria is next up, with the Reading midfielder making his debut for the club with a market value of £810,000, but is now worth £3.6million, which is a difference of £2.79million.

Ejaria had previously been out on loan with the likes of Liverpool and Rangers earlier in his career, but certainly adjusted well to his new surroundings at the Madejski Stadium with Reading.

His tricky footwork and defensive work-rate has impressed the majority of the Madejski Stadium faithful in the last few seasons, and he'll be hoping to go from strength to strength in the future.

With it being likely that Reading will cash-in on some of their key players, Ejaria could have an important role to play in providing the creative spark for the Royals moving forwards.

John Swift is the first name in the top-three, with the former Chelsea and Brentford midfielder having a market value of £675,000 when he first signed for Reading.

Swift has gone on to be a regular in the starting XI for the Berkshire-based side, even though he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Swift was on hand to score six goals and provide 11 assists for his Reading team-mates in the 2019/20 season, as they finished 14th in the Championship.

He is out-of-contract at the end of the 2021/22 season, and with a market value of £3.6million, it'll be interesting to see whether the Royals look to cash-in on him in the summer transfer window. There is a difference of £2.93million from Swift's market value on his debut compared to this moment in time.

Omar Richards is in at number two, with the Reading left-back establishing himself as a regular in the starting XI this season under Veljko Paunovic's management.

Richards' market value on his debut wasn't known, but he's now worth £4.5million according to Transfermarkt. He has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Reading this season, and it appears as though his strong showings haven't gone unnoticed.

It has been well-documented that Richards is set to sign for German giants Bayern Munich in the summer, with the left-back reportedly agreeing a deal with them, with his current contract with Reading set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season.

You would imagine that the Royals will be hugely frustrated not to be able to get a fee for Richards, as he's a player that could go on to be a regular at a high level with Bayern Munich.

Michael Olise is in at number one, with the Reading midfielder unsurprisingly having a market value of over £10million, after catching the eye with a number of strong performances this term.

It isn't clear as to what Olise's market value was at his first-team debut, but baring in mind he had no experience in senior football prior to that, you can imagine it wasn't a sizeable amount. His market value is now at £10.80million according to Transfermarkt.

Olise has gone on to make 43 appearances in all competitions for Reading's first-team this season, and he's chipped in with six goals and ten assists for the Royals.

His impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed though, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds United being just some of the teams previously interested in a deal to sign Olise.
