It looks set to be a busy summer at Preston North End.

Despite bringing in several players during the January transfer window, the majority of them only arrived on loan, meaning they will need to replace several members of their squad come the end of the season.

Indeed, with Preston having sacked Alex Neil since then, it is possible that the clubs new permanent manager - who has yet to be appointed - may want to put his own stamp on his side when the transfer market reopens.

That may mean that certain current Preston players will have to be moved on from Deepdale, in order to make room for those new arrivals, and there are some individuals who may be able to earn the club a decent fee from a potential sale.

Here, we've taken a look at the ten players in Preston's squad, who have seen their market value increase the most since making their debut for the club, according to Transfermarkt.

We start this list with Greg Cunningham, who was originally valued at £450,000 when he made his debut for Preston back in August 2015.

The left-back had spent the next three years at Deepdale, before leaving for Cardiff City in the summer of 2018, only to return to North End on a short-term deal until the end of the season back in the January transfer window.

Across those two spells with the club, the Republic of Ireland international has made a total of 120 appearances in all competitions, scoring on nine occasions, and is now valued at £1.08million, an increase of £630,000 that puts him tenth on this list.

Another who made the move to Deepdale in the January transfer window who has already done enough to earn a place on this list, is Ben Whiteman.

Having joined Preston from League One Doncaster Rovers on a three-and-a-half-year deal, Whiteman has quickly established himself as a regular in North End's midfield, replacing the Bournemouth bound Ben Pearson.

The 24-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Lilywhites already, and scored his first goal for the club in their recent 3-0 win over Derby, with his market value already rising from £135,000 on debut to £900,000, a growth of £765,000 that is enough to put him ninth in these standings.

Storey joined Preston at the age of 20, making the move from League Two Exeter City back in the summer of 2018.

Making that debut that August, the centre back arrived with a value of £23,000, and after being a fairly regular feature in his first season with the club, dropped down the pecking order in 2019/20, before returning to a more prominent role with some promising performances in the current campaign.

The defender has now made 75 appearances in total for North End, and has seen his value increase to £900,000, representing a rise in price of £878,000 that puts him in eighth place in these particular standings.

Another who made the move to Preston in the summer of 2018 who claims a spot in this top ten, is Andrew Hughes.

The left-back joined Preston from League One Peterborough United with a valuation of £135,000, and has since become a fairly regular feature on the left-hand side of North End's defence, making 95 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Having signed a new contract with Preston - which is set to keep him at Deepdale until the end of next season - earlier in the campaign, Hughes is now valued at £1.08million, an increase of £945,000 that puts him in seventh position on this list.

Arriving at Preston in the summer of 2019 from Charlton - where his final act had been a play-off final winner that secured their promotion to the Championship - Bauer carried a market value of £675,000.

The German enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign at Deepdale that saw him become a key presence at the heart of their defence alongside the now departed Ben Davies, but a serious injury has seen him restricted to just a handful of games during the current campaign.

Even so, the 28-year-old, who has just over a year remaining on his Preston contract, has still risen in value to £1.62million, an increase of £945,000 that earns him sixth place in these standings.

Having joined Preston in the summer of 2018 from another League One side in Oxford United, Ledson arrived at Deepdale with a market value of £315,000.

After a slow start to his North End career that saw him struggle to break into the side at times, the midfielder has become a more regular feature for the Lilywhites during the current campaign, scoring his first goals for the club in the process.

With just over two years remaining on his current Preston contract, Ledson is now valued at £1.35million, an increase of £1.04million that is enough to put him in fifth place on this particular list.

Maguire didn't actually have a market value when he arrived at Preston from Cork City in his native Republic of Ireland in the summer of 2017.

After a hugely promising start to his Preston career that saw him regularly find the net despite an injury-hit debut campaign, Maguire hasn't had quite as much of an impact in front of goal since then, although he remains a regular feature in the matchday squad, with 127 appearances and 22 goals to his name.

There are just over two years remaining on Maguire's contract at Deepdale, with the 24-year-old now valued at £1.08million, a rise that is enough to ensure he claims fourth spot in this list.

Barkhuizen joined Preston in January 2017, having signed a pre-contract agreement following his departure from League Two Morecambe earlier that season.

Having arrived at Deepdale with a value of £180,000, the winger has become a key figure in Preston's attack during his time with the club, scoring 38 goals and providing 20 assists in 192 appearances in all competitions for the club since then.

There is currently just over a year remaining on Barkhuizen's contract at Deepdale, something they will surely want to extend if possible, and the 27-year-old now carries a valuation of £2.25million, an increase of £2.07million that puts him third in these standings.

Johnson joined Preston from Aston Villa in the 2015 January transfer window with a market value of £90,000, with the attacker having failed to make a single senior appearance for the Premier League club.

Since then, Johnson has become a consistent presence in the North End side, making a total of 253 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 48 goals and providing 26 assists in that time.

Despite speculation linking him with a move away, Johnson signed a new contract with Preston -securing his future at Deepdale until the end of the 2022/23 campaign - earlier in the season, and he is now valued at £2.52millon, an increase of £2.43million that puts him second in these standings.

Having joined Preston from Cork City as an 18-year-old all the way back in January 2014, Browne didn't actually have a market value when he arrived at the club, meaning it is no huge surprise he claims top spot here.

The midfielder has become a key asset for Preston with his versatility and leadership - which has seen him captain the club on a number of occasions - as well as his consistency, which has seen him make almost 300 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Having signed a new contract with North End until the summer of 2024 at the start of this year, Brown is now valued at £3.6million, a rise which enough to see him comfortably claim first place in these standings.
