Cardiff City may not be heading up into the Premier League this season now but they will be at least hopeful that next year will see them put in a concerted effort to at least qualify for the play-offs.

Mick McCarthy appears to have lifted the mood around the place since coming in and has, overall, seen an upturn in form and performances with the Bluebirds looking on course for a top ten finish in the Championship.

Indeed, there's a decent squad at the club at the moment and the right additions in the summer could well help them on even further, though here we're looking at players currently at the club.

With the help of transfermarkt, we're ranking the ten players that have seen their value increase most since their debuts for the Bluebirds.

Click through the following gallery and see who comes out on top among the current squad...

In tenth place we find midfielder Will Vaulks who has seen his value increase by £450k since his debut for the club.

He is a midfielder that has fantastic technical attributes and is certainly someone who would deliver a real impact at any side in the Championship at the very least.

He made his debut at the start of the 2019/20 season where, according to transfermarkt, he was worth £900k and now he has increased that over the one million mark with a current value at £1.35m.

Surely, though, you would expect him to go for far more if a club wanted to sign him.

In ninth we have full-back Joe Bennett who has also had an increase in value of £450k but ranks slightly higher than Vaulks just because, according to transfermarkt, his overall value is higher.

Bennett made his debut for the Bluebirds in 2016 and has plenty of experience of playing in the Welsh capital with him a regular in their defence right now.

His value when he joined, according to transfermarkt, was £1.35m but that has now increased to £1.8m with the 31-year-old surely eager to remain at the club for next season and help them with a potential promotion push.

In eighth place is Perry Ng who has, according to transfermarkt, seen his value increase by £495k since arriving at Cardiff City earlier this season.

Many who saw him at Crewe Alexandra knew how good he could potentially come and that he was destined for a higher level, with him getting that chance with the Bluebirds this year and quickly fitting in.

Indeed, according to transfermarkt he was only worth £45k when he made his debut back in January but is now worth £540k after some fine performances in the Championship.

Surely, though, Cardiff would want far more for him if and when another club is interested in signing him.

Seventh place goes to Leandro Bacuna.

The player made his debut in February 2019 and, according to transfermarkt, he was worth £1.8m at the time.

Since then, though, he's apparently added £900k to his value with him now worth just shy of £3m, with £2.7m the actual figure.

The former Aston Villa man has been at the club for just over two years after leaving Villa Park and he has made 39 appearances for Cardiff this season in the Championship either from the off or from the bench.

He can play in midfield but has largely been used as a right-back this year.

Sheyi Ojo is up next on this particular list of players that have seen their values increased by the most since their respective debuts for Cardiff.

The winger is currently out on loan from Liverpool, as he has been for much of his recent career, and this summer could be the one where the Reds decide to let him go.

Potentially, Cardiff could be looking at getting a permanent deal done but it remains to be seen what sort of figure we'd be seeing agreed.

For transfermarkt, Ojo's value has increased by £1.26m from £1.44m to £2.7m.

Josh Murphy kicks off our top five.

Murphy's season has certainly been one of two halves with the way it has gone but he'll certainly be a lot happier now than he was just a matter of months ago.

Under Neil Harris he was hardly used and a move away in January looked possible but under Mick McCarthy he has come in from the cold to feature more.

Indeed, that's something that has been reflected by transfermarkt with his value doubling. It's gone up from £1.35m to £2.7m - an increase of £1.35m.

In fourth place we find striker Kieffer Moore.

The towering forward has had a pretty decent season this year for the Bluebirds and Mick McCarthy will be eager to build around him this summer to ensure the club is a real threat going forwards next season.

Moore has seen his value increase by £1.8m which, as with Murphy, represents a doubling of his valuation since his debut for the club which came in 2020.

As per transfermarkt, then, his value was £1.8m and is now at £3.6m, a pretty decent increase but in real terms he's surely worth even more.

Defender Sean Morrison is in third place.

He, like Moore, has seen an increase of £1.8m so, again, we use his higher overall value to separate the two in this list.

Morrison has been at the club a good while now and has seen both promotion to, and relegation from, the Premier League in his time at the club.

His debut came in 2014 with him valued at £2.7m and now, according to transfermarkt, he is worth £4.5m

Joe Ralls has been at the club for a long time and it is that fact that is behind a big increase in market value of £2.7m.

Indeed, as per transfermarkt, when he made his debut back in 2011 for Cardiff as a young footballer, he had a negligible value and so that has given him plenty of chance to obviously only increase his value - it'd be pretty impressive to chalk up a negative figure.

Ralls, then, is now worth £2.7m according to transfermarkt and at 27 he has still got plenty of time left in his career to rack up more Cardiff appearances.

Top of our list, and perhaps unsurprisingly, is defender Curtis Nelson who has become a real star for Cardiff City since joining.

Indeed, that has been reflected in his value increase according to transfermarkt, with him adding £2.93m to his figure since his debut for the Bluebirds.

As per transfermarkt, he was worth £225k when he made his debut but that has shot up to £3.15m and you can only see that going up further.

If he was to leave, meanwhile, you can bet anything that Cardiff would be looking for far more than just over £3m.
